Looking for tickets as Bonds closes in on 755? No problem
Mercury News ^ | 7/20/07 | Julia Prodis Sulek

As soon Barry Bonds came two home runs closer Thursday to breaking Hank Aaron's all-time home run mark, the phones started ringing at the Giants ticket office.

So just how tough is it to snag a ticket? Well, on Thursday, it wasn't tough at all. The Mercury News found four tickets for Monday's game off StubHub.com in the first-row of the upper deck, just off home plate, for $5 apiece. The $17 in handling fees jacked the price up to $37. But that's less than half the tickets' face value cost of four for $80.

It was a very sad day when Barroid broke Ruth’s record. It will be even sadder when he breaks Aaron’s. I will be wearing black the following day, because I will be in mourning.

I will always envision an asterisk with this “record”. I teach my son that Aaron is the real home run hitter.

And it impacts YOUR life HOW to be there when the very unpleasant and surly posterboy for steroids hits a few more out of the park?

Jeezzz. Some folks really DO need to get lives.

Well it will greatly impact the person who catches the ball, because that person will have a lot of money

Barry Bonds is the man who puts the “Ass” in asterisk.

Don’t worry. Alex Rodridguez or Albert Pujols will come along in a few years and eliminate Barry Bonds’ asterisk for good.

You got that right!.....even though the record breaking homer will always be tainted in my mind, I’m sure collectors will be willing to pay....I’m thinking something in the $1 million range.

At 1851 they can remove the asterisk.

No one should feel bad about auctioning Bonds’ 755* or 756* ball. He’s all about the money, so anyone who gives the ball back is a chump.

Seems to me that most folks have concluded that a lot, if not a majority, of players are using. Especially older pitchers in order to help them recover. This doesn’t make it right but it puts into question everyone’s stats. Without actually testing positive, one cannot be sure who is guilty. Barry is the lightening rod because he is at the top of the hitting stats. He also isn’t exactly the nicest person in the world.

Given that so many are using, Barry’s record makes sense to me in the context of the time/era that he played in.

I'd like visible handguns to be unnecessary while also not striking fear in the hearts of average citizens.

I was kinda hoping that Bonds would set a season high record for walks this season...........Its still do able.......

There's gonna be alot of asterisks then.

Every since they have made ball parks smaller has changed the nature of the game.

“first-row of the upper deck, just off home plate”

I’m guessing however the l,c & right field bleachers, where a home run would go are pretty much sold out.

The same could be said for any record.

It usually isn’t difficult to get a seat to the game, especially in the upper deck, where the reporter was looking. Seats in the lower section for upcoming games are much more difficult to find. If you want 3 or more seats together in the lower section you will pay $100 ea ($60 over face value). The problem now is the Giants are horrible. This week they will play the Marlins.... BORING. Two horrible teams playing each other. The only excitement is Barry and that will drive ticket sales. If Barry is within 1 of the record you won’t find a seat below $500 in the lower section.

A Rod will be breaking anyting Bonds does shortly...

Bonds sadly is a joke and an asterics.

He had a solid decent career, and decided to throw it away for his own ego.

Bonds is not, and never will be, one of the great ones, and all the rhoids in the world can’t change that.
