Namath used to be a good scrambler. The defenses took care of that, destroying his knees.
Joe was a wonderful passer though and had a brilliant career.

Vick? Without his scrambling he won’t make the grade.

Vick is really scrambling now - in the jail cell trying to keep away from Big Daddy Jimbob.

Yep, I think the hype with VY is the same. They would do more as WR with their height and speed. Weak passer and who rely on the scramble don’t last long.

One of those sports-statistic-guru outfits (sort of like the football equivalent of the Bill James Baseball Abstract) developed a modified -- and more realistic -- version of the NFL quarterback rating system. Instead of basing it on a QB's completion percentage, they developed a statistic they called a "productive completion percentage." This figure is a QB's completion percentage, but only counting complete passes that are deemed "productive" -- i.e., completed passes covering at least 40% of the yardage needed on 1st down, 70% of the yardage needed on 2nd down, and 100% of the yardage needed on 3rd and 4th downs.

In other words, a QB who completes a 3-yard pass on 2nd and 10, or a 5-yard pass on 3rd and 7, is credited with an incomplete pass instead of a complete pass.

When the league's QBs are rated this way, Michael Vick consistently ranks as the worst quarterback in the NFL -- and by a wide margin, too.
