Teen Girls Accused Of Setting Kitten Ablaze.

COTATI, Calif. -- A three-month-old kitten is fighting for his life after allegedly being set afire by two teenage girls last week.

The male shorthaired kitten, named Adam, received second- and third-degree burns over 75 percent of its body and was being treated at an animal hospital in Cotati, in Northern California's Sonoma County, officials said.

The kitten has undergone two surgeries and had its tail and the tips of its ears amputated.

Two girls have been charged with cruelty to animals in connection with the case. They were arrested last Friday after allegedly pouring flammable liquid on the cat, only 8 weeks old at the time and setting it on fire.

A boy and his friend said they saw the smoke and heard the cat shrieking while the girls laughed.

The girls are being held in Sonoma County's Juvenile Hall. The maximum penalty carried by the charges against them is three years of confinement.

Why do you want to burn your two little kittens?

I believe HG is stating that the girls who did this need to be burned not her two kitties.

Need reinforcements in here ;)

Awww... stories like this are so awful. And people wonder why it's so easy to become bitter about the human race. I think these two girls are detestable and I'm sure they're not done showing us what they're capable of.

I don't know... the kitten sure looks like he's happy to be alive and healthy in the pictures, hopefully he'll live the rest of his life loved. I don't fault them for saving it. I'd have wanted to. If he was really in a lot of pain, I likewise would not faulted them for putting him down. After all, we put down perfectly healthy but unwanted animals every day in most of our towns all over America. How many of those could we save if we let them tug at our heartstrings like this little fella did?

It's a precious kitten now, and ironically, a much luckier kitten than some.

I’m an animal lover, but that is ridiculous.

No it's not. If it was my kitty that these little bitches burned I'd pay anything to help her survive as long as her survival didn't endure her pain.

Animals are very resilient.

Why save it? Because they can and because it is the right thing to do. This poor animal was tortured by two deviants. By saving him, these doctors and people demonstrate caring and compassion for others to take note of and hopefully emulate.

YOU make an EXCELLENT point I never thought of...it bears repeating

Now the society goes to work fixing the two “girls”. They’re basically done for...

I know I was recently ragging on a poster for wanting to summarily shoot a bad-actor.

I may be a hypocrite, but I'm in favor of summary execution for anyone who tortures animals.

Using your size or physical superiority to any creature in order to inflict pain
or suffering for NO REASON OTHER THAN "KICKS" is a death-crime to me.

Maybe I'm a hypocrite.

The cat had third degree burns all over her body. If she feels pain anything like a human, she is in agony. And two surgeries on top of that?

Talk about cruelty to animals.

Definitely a horrible crime.

But how much money is going to be spent saving a CAT?

If the kitten was Terri Shiavo, it would have been put down already.

What planet are you from?

Animals are NOT at all human beings. God made MAN, not animals, in His likeness. Not differentiating between man and animals is where the problems come in.

Funny you should mention DU, though, from a Clinton supporter like yourself. Your views are running pretty liberal. Getting boring over there?

I suppose I have done the same thing myself, if truth be known. Your views are not unconventional, but have been repeated by philosophers and sages of great renown (my pappy, for one). Maimonides said that if we show mercy to the merciless, the day will come when the merciless will show no mercy to the merciless. These two girls definately are among the merciless, and apart from true repentance might well end up like that gal who was executed in TX some years back. (BTW, I think Gov. Bush did the right thing by not commuting her execution, even though she professed faith in Christ. I believe a Christian in that situation ought not to lobby for his or her clemency, because the Bible is clear on this subject: Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man (Gen. 9:6)).

Adam should serve as a warning to those parents who are in denial about their children’s viciousness.

Homocidal triad: bedwetting, setting fires, and cruelty to animals (probably should include small humans as well, these days).

I have a feeling that Adam isn’t going anywhere for a long time. He’s looking a little belligerent in the second pic ;)

You make a good point about all the other worthy animals that are put down each day. But saving this one sends a message I think about this sort of hideous abuse. Also, it will probably turn out to be the most loving animal if sent to a good home.

will show no mercy to the merciless

See, I just did it myself. Should have been "will show no mercy to the merciful.

And to think I got a good night's sleep last nite.
