Major fire at Wal*Mart 777 Story Rd.

Smoke obstructing 280 Fwy.

Large FD and emergency respose, judging by the number of sirens I'm hearing.

In the southwest there are some Wal-Marts that, despite steel columns, have overall roof framing of structural lumber and wood truss-joists. This can only be done in low snow load areas for structural reasons.

I guess I should offer that roof framing wouldn't be a big culprit. Any building can burn quite nicely, due to contents, no matter how fire resistive the framing.

A major conflagration would be more a factor of an automatic fire sprinkler system malfunction than anything else.

Even with modest contents burning, the air gets so hot inside a fire area that floor coverings, paint and items that have low-flame spread ratings still end up contributing to the fire. Eventually the normal non-combustable items loose their structural strength -- voila, World Trade Center.

Yup. If you want to take out a building, first sabotage the sprinkler system

BTW, remember the TN driver license scandal? One of the møøslimbs that Kathrine Smith gave multiple licenses to (before she was burned alive in her car) was carrying a contractor's work permit to fix the sprinklers at the WTC.

The WTC didn't contract out sprinkler work...

Nope. I just followed KLIV’s reports and the reported address past where the news actually went.

See Salon for a mainstream media portrayal:

http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2002/06/19/detain/index.html

The 4 page article ends:

Hammad is now back at home in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. Like the others, he eventually pled guilty to a one-count conspiracy indictment related to the driver's licenses. Last month in court, the prosecutor assured the judge there was "no proof of any terrorist activity" among the men and recommended a lenient sentence. The men are expected to be released on time served.

Hammad is nonetheless angry about the circumstances that led to his round-the-clock lockdown in a maximum-security prison. "Just because we're Arabs doesn't make us any less American," he says. "I grew up here. It's my country. I've been here eight years, working hard and paying taxes. I never had a problem with anybody and look what happened to me."

But investigators aren't the only target of his frustration: "If I ever saw Osama bin Laden," he says, "I'd kill him myself for what he did to ruin so many lives, to ruin my life."

I knew a great guy who was an Iranian civil engineer. He even emigrated back to his home country with hope in his heart in the early ninties.

His character was a constant frame of reference to the issues of Persian and Arab muslims being all a Jihad nation within the US.

Perhaps this was a terrible string of coincidences for some of that group. I can only assume that a prosecutor would like nothing better than to make a name for himself in catching someone else in the 9/11 conspiracy, and here, the prosecutor says that there is nothing else here.

Along with the legacy of Ruby Ridge and Waco, we also have the legacy of the Atlanta Olympic bomber who was falsely accused and assumed to be guilty. We have the hobbyist who is always arrested with "an arsenal" of "assault weapons" that turn out to be semi-automatic commonly available guns.

I bet there were reporters trying to find the smoking gun and failing as this guy was let off, all a good sign that perhaps the system worked correctly.

It would all be so easy if we were just back when it was the Italians immigrating and all we had to fear was a nationwide crime syndicate that lasted a hundred years, LOL.

One of my sixth great grandfathers was a huge slave owner in the west indies and his great grandson was a violent abolitionist. The miracle of the USA can invert and reform a lot of evil.

I had a friend who was sent back to Iran when the company we worked for was shut down.

No one has heard a word from him since.

They sell steel wool, 9v batteries and plastic lawn furniture. This can be a series problem.
