The British Comet was the first passanger jet aircraft. The trouble was it had a dangerous end. Five of them blew apart in the air, due to defective engineering. The windows were square, instead of oval, as they are to day. The weak point in a square window is the corners, which gave out, due to pressuration of the aircraft at high altitude.
Composite Aircraft, was developed, by a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Ken Rand, the first plane was called the KR-1. The big problem with composite material, is it can deteriate, after long exposure to UV rays. Also there is a big problem with Freeze-thaw effect, that is why I question the wings. They have to paint these aircraft with special Paint, and the more flex of the wings the paint cracks, then UV rays deteriate the composite material. The question is what will be the life of the wings? I just don't want to see another disaster like the Comet! Jim Laughead EAA# 79769

Welcome to FR. Prepare to be zapped.
Uh... welcome to FR?
IBTZ?
Uh huh...
Are you an A & P technician? Do you have verifiable sources you can attribute and link to?
If so, Welcome to FR.
Uhhh do you work for Lockheed or something???
Don’t worry, be happy!
BTW this post of yours in NOT news it is opinion and should be filed under Vanity posts.
Also Boeing has demonstrated that they are the finest group of aircraft engineers in the world, and I plan on being one of the early pilots to fly the 787.
IBTZ
Boeing has used an all composite tail section for over a decade on the 777. If there was a Comet type of problem it would have shown up by now.
Instead of the KR-1, think of modern sailplanes, the B-2 and the X-29.
Sheesh...Boeing will probably touch the wingtips before the wing fails.
Sheesh.
Do you work for knockneed?
Airbust, most likely.
Yes, but your FR career isn't.
The Comet crashes were caused by metal fatigue, a little known problem at the time. The problem was solved and the Comets were fine.
There are already commercial airliners with major composite parts. They have been in service for decades. They have not deteriorated due to UV rays or freeze/thaw cycles.
As for square vs oval windows hobbits have round windows and I have never heard of their house exploding in midair. Now trailer houses have square windows and they do fly apart in midair with the help of a tornado.
