The burly Orange County tree trimmer won $10,000 last month and had been bragging about it ever since.I was at a club once and there was some guy bragging about winning big at a casino and flashing his money around. There were a bunch of cops outside when I left, and somebody told me the guy got rolled in the parking lot. Not a good idea to go around bragging about your money.

"I had to kill the Cracker."
Definitely a hate crime -- let's see how the media and courts handle this.

I'd be happy to win 10 grand, but I wouldn't spend every waking hour bragging about it.
I was remodeling my bathroom last week and found an old rusty bandaid can held to a beam underneath the floor with a piece of wire. When I opened the can, I found one thousand dollars all neatly rolled together. It was marked 1966, so it had been there for at least 41 years. The couple who owned the house at that time are both deceased, and this was obviously hid away for an emergency and forgotten about.
I joked to my Wife that at least this made the remodeling worthwhile :)

I have a strict policy I always follow: my finances are no one else's business. If I have money, I don't boast about it and I live a modest life. The less attention I attract, the better it is for my well-being.

A couple of lessons already spoken of here about a revolving door justice system, hate crime, and being overly ostentatious about good fortune have already been said, but I am reminded of an old counter adage to the concept of wealth redistribution.
"If you took all the money away from the wealthy, and gave it to the impoverished in one night, it would all be back in the hands of the wealthy by the next day."
Point is, success, built on frugality and hard work is how most of the wealthy remain that way. Those who fall into a lot of money in a short time oftentimes fail to fully capitalize on the good fortune, they have not the maturity. Recent history is littered with lottery "casualties" and celebrities constantly going in and out of rehab for recreational drug use. All the while, the oil magnate is viewed with disdain and the music/television/movie star limousine socialist is lauded.

The “Cracker” was asking for it. What an idiot to brag on the 10k in a crew with ex-cons.

I have a sister who won a large amount of money fifteen years ago.She won with eleven co-workers and her take was twenty thousand a year for twenty years after taxes.Haven’t heard a word from her since! The good thing was the family really did not care and hound her.She quit her job as a bank manager and gained 150 pounds and does most of her shopping from the QVC channel! The family is more concerned with her health than her wealth!
