Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
Thanks for the warnings... seriously, I have been nose deep in other books and only watching cable movies. Unless we have a terrorist attack or something, I’m so staying away from the radio and wedsites (except Free Republic).
Lucius is safely in Azkaban.... he’ll be alive at the end
A real man of letters?
Yeah, and those letters are: elohssa. :)
Does he get everything backwards???
I don’t think Minerva has been sufficiently parental to need killing. She has supplied discipline, not too much wizardly help.
Hagrid on the other hand, would do ANYTHING for Harry, and is doomed, I am afraid.
Thanks for the info. ! Some of that I didn’t know, now how to save it......hm.
Just cut and paste.
I’ve got it saved in a word document...
I’m thinking about going to Wal-mart too. We were planning on doing the B&N party, but I’m really concerned some jerk will ruin it for everyone.

Release time can’t come fast enough. I’m going broke shopping online just to avoid the news & spoilers.
I bought some super cute shoes at Zappos, though. ;-)
Shoe shopping is a brilliant idea, thanks!
I am reading 2 books just to stay away! Both are good but non-fiction so hard to stay with for long periods. (1776 & The Clinton Crack-up). And I still think I inadvertently found out the ending on Tuesday!!!!!!! I am hoping not, but after you posted about what she had written on Mugglenet and then reading that thread I pinged you to earlier today, I’m worried that I found out more than I intended to! :/ Oh well, maybe it will all still be a clever hoax to gin up publicity for the last book.
I don't think Snape's sacrifice would mean a lot for Harry. What is Snape's motivation? It wouldn't be anything personal, such as love, but more good guys vs bad guys, wanting Voldemort to be defeated, that sort of thing.
A lot less potent than mother love, I think.
They didn't exactly say not to read it, just keep it hidden. Don't walk around with it and let everyone know you have the book.
I'd definitely read it, and then it would drive me NUTS to have to keep my mouth shut until the books came out. Probably not worth the torture, but I wouldn't be able to help myself.
Exactly as I would do.
I've given up worrying about the numbers game. There are just too many candidates and the plotting is essentially arbitrary, it being a magical world. Six hardly scratches the surface. My theories, just to get them down before the release:
I assume Voldemort is destroyed. Peter Pettigrew, Fenrir (if he counts as a "character"), and Bellatrix are all good candidates for a trip to the graveyard. Lucius Malfoy is too important to the story to be left dangling. He either needs to be redeemed or killed. (Interesting twist if Lucius should break with Voldemort to save Draco or Narcissa -- again, the plotting is arbitrary.)
That gets me to five corpi delecti without even starting on the good guys, of whom Snape is the obvious first candidate for an untimely end.
One of the curiosities of the whole Potter universe, in my mind at least, is that a 21st century female author has created such a heavily masculine storyline. FWIW, that's the main reason I'd bet on Hermione surviving. JK Rowling has said that one character she had originally thought to kill got a reprieve. I'd bet that is Hermione. JK doesn't have enough major female characters to be throwing them away carelessly.
Hermione in particular is the anchor character for future generations of little girls; if JK wants the series to stand the test of time, that's a factor. Also, Hermione hasn't really been built up enough to be worth killing. Like Ron, she's a sidekick but isn't really central to any of the deeper plot designs. Tonks, Luna or Cho could die heriocally -- having killed off Dumbledore and Sirius Black, JK needs to sacrifice someone who lacks a Y chromosome, lest she be thought a chauvinist -- but Professor McGonagall is my guess. She is a heavyweight in the series, she's old enough that her death won't shock the nine-year-olds, and besides, how else can Remus Lupin become headmaster of Hogwarts?
What the heck: everybody's entitled to one nutball theory, and that's mine.
Ron is in a little more jeopardy than Hermione -- there are plenty of both boys and Weasley's to spare -- but plotwise he's also hardly worth killing, unless JK is going to do a "slaughter everyone close to Harry" routine. If one of the kids is to be sacrificed -- and I'd guess one will be -- Neville would be the most interesting choice.
Harry lives.
Dobby and Filch die.
Try the English Stephen Fry versions - they’re much more pleasant on the ears.
