Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
Who is Gabriel?
Some hacker who goes by that name has posted what he claims as the real ending. It’s interesting but if it’s true, it would be kind of boring and sad too. My two favorite characters get axed.
NO!
I just about fell over the coffee table this morning running for the remote when Fox and Friends started talking about the spoilers. I can’t imagine they would give the ending away, but I wasn’t taking any chances.
I’m not sure if I will be able to completely avoid the leaks, but I am doing my best.
My husband was so funny last night. He suggested I only watch Comedy Central and go to pogo.com (for games) on-line. “Otherwise you know someone is just going to slip it into conversation when you least suspect it.”
That’s one thing I heard, also. I think JKR herself may have said two main characters go.
Personally, if it’s true, I think it would stink.
She did say that but not which ones.
I saw that Drudge had a headline about parts of the book being leaked onto file-sharing sites. I'm trying to stay well away from all of it.
I bet they edited it for the shows starting later in the morning.
I am afraid they are going to off, Hagrid.
Yeah, I've always thought that, too, for some reason.
Sorry, I don't know how to make a hyper-link.
Here's a short excerpt from the article:
"Jim Dale is either one of the luckiest men in America or one of the most tortured. A little less than two months ago, Mr. Dale, the veteran Broadway actor turned voice of Harry Potter, finished recording the audio version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final installment in the colossally successful series by J. K. Rowling. So that means that he knows how it ends. His grandchildren, who visited from England after he completed the recording, literally twisted his arms trying to get him to divulge a clue. His wife is still in the dark. Everywhere he goes, people want to know What He Knows. Its a surprise ending, he said on Friday, during an interview in his Park Avenue co-op. Lets say that."
The article does not contain any spoilers, and it gives some good background on Jim Dale and the inspiration for the voices he uses for the characters.
I like all of the voices he creates, except that I don't like the way he has Hermione say, "Harreeeeee" when she addresses Harry.
I didn’t care for his French accent on Bellatrix, but otherwise I like his voices. His Dumbledore is great! I can’t wait for DH on CD. Costco and Sam’s Club usually have much better prices on it then the big bookstores. I think I paid $35-40 for HBP. The suggested price is $75 on the box.

JULY 18th
We are almost there! As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the web and in the press on the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very short time you will know EVERYTHING!
Amen!
For what it's worth, I think that Snape is good, and that he will sacrifice himself to save Harry. I think that Harry will defeat LV, but only with the assistance of Neville.
Sounds like the plot might have leaked...
I agree with you on both accounts. IMO, Snape is on the side of right, he’s just a jerk with the people skills of bean bag. Like Sirius says in OotP, “The world is not divided up into good people and death eaters.”
I’ve got a feeling Neville is going to knock our socks off and show us why he was put in the house known for bravery.
And if he is the one who dies I am going to cry, cry, cry!
I doubt that the hacker has the real ending anyway. Just a bunch of nuts who want to try to ruin the story.
JKR has already said that one of the characters ends up as a Hogwarts professor. My bet is Neville ends up as Herbology professor, replacing Professor Sprout. But Hermione is damn good at Transfiguration, and Professor McGonagal is now Headmistress. I loved the killer canaries in HBP.
I hope you are right. It would be pretty crappy for people to ruin it.
That’s so weird that you mention the canaries. I am re-listening to HBP and took a break to see if there were any new posts. I was right at the canary part! (insert Twilight Zone music)
