A shame. He was quite a talent, starting in his early 20s as the Charlotte Observer's editorial cartoonist. I think it's fair to say that he targeted conservatives more than he did liberals, but all ideologies got skewered from time to time. Nixon was a frequent target, but later, so was Clinton.

He was relentless on Jesse Helms -- but Senator Helms didn't take it personally, and in fact wrote the foreword to one of Marlette's cartoon compilations.
