Daring Rescue of Wild Pig
South Harbor Currents | 7-10-08 | Porky Pig

Daring Rescue of Wild Pig McKinnon Powell was out on his jet ski in a very high tide when he came upon a young pig that was drowning. He stopped the jet ski and fought with the pig to save him. He put his life jacket around the pig, got him onto the jet ski and drove him back to the dock. McKinnon then transferred him to the car and took him home. Being sympathetic to the porker’s distress and his son’s quick-thinking heroism, Dad Kinny put the pig on the back porch to recover. He convulsed there for three to four hours but was able to stand on his four legs the next morning. Then before you know it, he had ripped a hole in the new porch screen Kinny had just installed and was dangling over the edge when McKinnon saved his bacon the second time from a 15 foot fall to the ground. Kinny decided this had gone far enough and called Sue Jones, who does animal rescues from her home on Green Island Rd., hoping dearly to be rescued himself. Sure enough, she said bring the little guy over, we’ll put him in a pen and give him a couple of days to get his strength back and let him out in a safe place. But before Kinny could turn around good after surveying the porch and adding up the costs of the rescue, Sue called to say that Piglet had escaped the pen and made a clean getaway!

The pig decided he had had enough help. I’d say he was right, if he had that much energy.

That was an awful lot of work for an animal that gentiles consider to be a tasty repast.
