I don't know if it will be of any solace to know that the traffic posts on Pennsylvania Avenue just outside the White House are very similar, but I think that the Oregon posts would actually be safer for pedestrians than the ones chosen for D.C. because the edges are more rounded near the top and so offer fewer sharpened surfaces.
