For some reason things just grow. I took an old what presumably was dead bamboo piece, placed it in water and left it alone for 8 weeks. It started to sprout leaves.

I think both plants are called succulents, they thrive on water. Cacti store water in their leaves, bamboo is a reedy, grass like plant.
