CLEVELAND -- A neighbor apparently angry about noisy fireworks shot three people to death early Thursday and wounded two others, police said.
Terrance Hough Jr., a 35-year-old off-duty firefighter, was arrested in connection with the shootings near his home shortly after midnight
The shooter was apparently upset about loud noise from fireworks at a house next door and opened fire, killing two men and a woman, all in their early- to mid-20s, Stacho said. He said another man was shot in the elbow and a woman was wounded in the hand.

I once lived in Lily-Whitehood for 3 years. Yes, there were fireworks and gunshots on New Years Eve - but nothing compared to what I live with now.
This is not a racist statement - if I was a racist, I would be back living in Lily-Whitehood. But I don't, I live in a majority black city, which, obviously I have no problem with ( or I wouldn't be living here). However, I DO have a problem with the excesses on Dec. 31 and Jul. 4.
In many parts of the South “He needed killin’” is a valid defense. But I’m not sure that applies in this case.
His 3 children will have a father in prison now. Murdering 3 people for setting off fireworks deserves the death penalty.

In the city where I used to live, I was delighted to hear good ol' fireworks - from plain firecrackers all the way up to mortar shells - rather than hear six bangs evenly spaced, followed by a pause, followed by six bangs, etc.
Yep, those who didn't have fireworks just joined in by emptying their cheap revolvers skyward. One New Years Eve, my cousin got his hair parted by a falling bullet.
And yes, those fireworks-deprived noisemakers were nearly all of the same racial/ethnic group, too.

I think you’d be surprised to find out that big fireworks are popular everywhere, and even lily white people do it. We have a beach house and there are thousands of dollars worth of big display-quality fireworks going up all night from all those million dollar homes. We live near a lake in a very white area, and the roar from the lake was constant last night. This is just NOT an ‘ethnic’ thing.
Living in the suburban country like I do, and having dogs and horses who need to be kept safe, it’s been years since I’ve been able to enjoy it. I gave my dogs sedatives last Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I don’t know yet, about this weekend, hopefully the neighbors have blown their wad.

Here in California we have a few delusional little towns where it's illegal to smoke outdoors anywhere. Every time I drive through I stop for a smoke...

Horses get used to fireworks same as gun fire. I went to take my dog for a walk before fireworks at about 9pm nad was too late as the noise started just then. He is terrified of fireworks. Then I went home and set out the fountains and then the 25 shot repeaters that were illegal. It is the fourth and fireworks should go off. It does not happen every night. People get their quiet most nights, on the fourth it is the time for people who like boom. I love my horses but on the fourth let it rip. I perfer doing my own than going to a public diplay and have to wait an hour to get home with the traffic.
Last night the National Mall evacuated since we had storms but it cleared for fireworks. I have not been to DC for fireworks since 2000. Do not want to go thru the fuss of security.
My neighbors cheered and since the repeaters were done in the middle of the road , they wait for the firework to finish.
I ignored your other comments up thread, but you're making statements without having enough information. That tends to make you look ignorant.
If you've been around long enough, you know that Hair has horses, and dogs and annually has to deal with the problem of their reactions to fireworks. Many of her neighbors know this, but don't care.
Likewise, the beach house is a family property and it's where her father lives.
No one is saying there shouldn't be celebrations or fireworks.
But if someone wants to be a real American patriot in all of this, they'd 1) have consideration for others and 2) clean up after themselves.
Being and American patriot has nothing to do with being inconsiderate and irresponsible.

Of course I'm not surprised. I am not talking about fireworks displays. We have plenty of them in my city. I'm talking about blasts at 3:00 am that shake your entire house. I'm talking about 8 hours of continuous booms. I'm talking about gunshots being fired for hours on end. Like I said, when there is so much smoke and gunpowder smell in the air that it looks like a London pea-soup fog, I am talking about more than a normal Fourth of July fireworks display.
I live in an area that is filled with lakes. The fireworks shot over the lakes are one thing - I'm talking the fireworks being shot off up and down residential streets by hundreds of people.
You should have seen the litter on my street this morning when I went to work. Enough empty firework shells to fill a dumpster - this just on my block. Multiply that by dozens of blocks.
Don't get me wrong - I love the 4th of July and all the fireworks. There is such a thing as excess.
