From Wikipedia: In 2004, a grave was excavated in Cyprus that contained the skeletons, laid close to one another, of both a human and a cat. The grave is estimated to be 9,500 years old, pushing back the earliest known feline-human association significantly.

Cats' ancestry was traced to five types of wild cats...If cats are descended from wild cats, how come there are still wild cats? hmmmm. ;O)

Domestication of cats began as long as 10,000 to 12,000 years ago, O'Brien said, as the earliest farmers domesticated grains and cereal. As that occurred, local wild cats adapted to hunting rodents in the grain and developed a relationship with humans. A negotiated" partnership, accounting for the independence of cats up to this day. While I could envision my dog saying "yes, Master." if she could talk, my cat would never stoop to such humiliating depths, thank you.
