My city is having a huge Potter party downtown. The library and the kids bookstore are sponsoring the party, the dinner and movie place is showing Sorcerer's Stone, and the local brewery is providing butterbeer!
It all sounds very cute. I'll head over at 11:30 to get my already paid for book!!

Even were I home, I’d be skipping the parties, I think. The kids are old enough to make it up to midnight (I think), but traveling home would be a nightmare. Granted, it’d be the only time I’d get to see my family do any remotely geeky, except none of them would do more than to have a Harry Potter T-shirt on or something like that. No dressing up. No talking like the characters. (Hell, my wife would probably scowl at me if I tried to get into the spirit of things with the other folks on line.)

Yeah, I'm skipping the party, too.
I will try to get my hands on some butterbeer, though. ;)

There are a number of parties scheduled in this area, especially at the big bookstores. We’re not in the market for late hours, so I’ll take the kids to the library’s afternoon shindig.

Which is why it bugged ME when Jim Dale added the “t” at the end in the books following the first one. :)
I just realized I either had an old date on my calendar, or I put it in the wrong place, and I have an extra week to get through the rest of the books. Woohoo.

How about Harry Potter dies in his sleep after recounting the tale of his life to his great-great-great-great grandchildren? :)

I noticed. They fixed that in subsequent printings. I have one of the earlier printings.

Tell her she’ll have plenty of time to watch all four on DVD to prepare for when you get back. :p

My sister-in-law has an accent just like the Weasleys. When she and my brother visit, the kids just sit around and listen to her.

I’m still voting for wiping out the entire cast in a massive, confused fight scene, followed by an epilogue from the Prince of Sweden.

(Gryffindor '88 Arthur Weasley will be named the Minister of Magic...) Given the age of the Weasleys' children, I think a graduation date of '78 would be more likely.
