Kitna boldly predicts that Lions will be winners in 2007

Updated: June 24, 2007, 10:39 AM ET

The Detroit Lions haven't had a winning record since 2000 and haven't won 10 games since 1995. That's all going to change in 2007, according to quarterback Jon Kitna.

Appearing on WDFN-AM in Detroit on Thursday, Kitna predicted that the Lions will win more than 10 games this season. The Lions were 3-13 in 2006.

In March, Kitna said the Lions would win 10 games in 2007, but after seeing the team's schedule he adjusted his prediction -- higher.

"I'll keep to myself what I think we actually will win. But it's more than 10 games," Kitna said.

Part of the reason for Kitna's optimism is Calvin Johnson, the team's first-round draft pick.

"I don't like putting a lot of pressure on people, but Calvin Johnson, to me, will have about the same impact that Reggie Bush had in New Orleans," Kitna said. "He's everything that they said he was and more."

Yeah right!

We're going back to the Bowl this season, and this time we'll win.

The opener at Oakland may determine who picks first in next year’s draft.

Yeah no point in getting Urlacher upset at him.

Well in 2005 he could have drafted either DeMarcus Ware or Shawne Merriman but he just couldn’t resist Mike Williams. That decision alone would have cost most other GM’s their jobs.

Just make sure your team beats San Francisco twice. The Pats have their first round pick next year.

Notice though that he didn’t predict that they’d win their division.

Then he's really smoking something. 10 wins should be more than enough in that division. Hell, 8 wins might be more than enough.

Sorry, Jonny, but last I checked, your name wasn't Joe Namath.

I seriously doubt that the Pontiac Pussycats could win ten games this year, even if they brought back Lem Barney, Doak Walker, Les Bingaman, Joe Schmidt, and Sonny Gandee.

As long as Shawn Alexander doesn’t get injured again, anything is possible.

Gray and fuzzy. He often sees that after he’s being sacked and is looking up at the roof of his home field.

He had some pretty good weapons when he started in Cincy and the most he could get them was eight wins.

It’s pretty bad when I can’t even ask my father about the last time the Lions were great. I have to ask my grandfather.

I think all of the NFC playoff teams from last year will be back in it with the exception of the Giants.

And actually, don't get me wrong... they really could win their division this year. The NFC North really does look that bad. The only credible team, the Bears, have had their defense eviscerated, and look poised to resume the trend of Superbowl losers with losing records the next year.

Also, does Kitna really believe that the Saints' success last season was just because of Reggie Bush? Calvin Johnson's great, but they're going to need much more than him to actually get 10 wins. The Saints' defense wasn't pretty, but they kept teams out of the endzone. The same can't be said for the Lions'. Drew Brees might have had something to do with it, too. Jon Kitna, well... no.

As for the new team I’m thinking either Carolina or SF.
