“I am white, live in Texas and have been to Juneteenth celebrations.” Why

First of all, I did not have much choice in being white. Both mom and dad are of Euro decent. However, my great grand father was an African American, born in South Africa, he was Lily white.

I have always liked Texas with the great weather, good economy and wonderful people. I also like how here in Austin I can go see music any night of the week and all the college girls are really cute. However, for some reason I keep getting older and all the cute college girls stay the same age.

Of all government holidays it is Juneteenth that I can respect the most. For it is the day when slaves in Texas were told they had been emancipated from bondage. Interestingly, the evil white slave holders in Texas somehow forgot to tell their slaves about the the Emancipation Proclamation and the South's loss of the Civil War. And yes, the food is good, the people are great, i like the music, my kids have a good time and learn about American History.

Exactly, and as a white man you are a pretty fair representation of those “evil white slave holders”. Your attendance of a Juneteenth celebration is sort of like a Brit elbowing his way into a 4th of July celebration complete with Union Jack and red British soldier uniform.

Don’t you feel a bit out of place? Also, given the violence of Junteenth celebrations this year, I can’t imagine why you would want to expose your children to that.

It just seems very odd to me, but perhaps it’s just me.
