I would have bought the DVD for that alone. I didn’t think anyone in the diner looked familiar other than him. Everything about his face looks like Robert Patrick. I just wish I could have seen those eyes.
Hunter wasn’t Scatino’s daughter was she???
I can’t remember Hunter’s last name. I’m not sure we ever saw her parents. I don’t remember them. David had a son named Eric.
Apparently she wasn’t. Scatino was the father of Eric, Meadow’s (boy?) friend. Interesting though, that the song in the final credits of Bust Out, where they cleaned out Davey’s store, was also Journey, Wheel In The Sky, which fits right in with the onion rings and potential “payback is a bitch” scenario with Robert Patrick. I can’t find a list of the cast anywhere.
Come on, peeps, we have to treat this like it was the President’s National Guard memo. Chase has given us all the clues we need, the records of the series online are voluminous, I bet we can crack this case and FIGURE OUT what happened.
Yes, Tony and Carmela were Republicans, as were most of the other mobsters and wives who ever talked politics. As mentioned, Carmela said she voted for Bush. And early on in the series, Tony had a housing scam where he was pilfering federal money, and in giving a toast about it, he said something like, “I never thought I’d say this, but here’s to the federal government.” Paulie and others were adamantly anti-liberal.
Meadow and AJ, though, are Democrats. Meadow went to college and became Lisa Simpson, earning dirty looks from her parents every time she opened her know-it-all mouth about politics. AJ was apathetic until the last season, when he started going on ad nauseum about how f’d up the country is, with Bush about to invade Iran and Americans using too much oil and so on. AJ stopped whining at the very end, but nothing suggested that he changed his political beliefs — especially since he evidently went into the movie industry, which would doubtless solidify any fledgling lefty beliefs that he had.
good analysis.
That’s interesting about the Journey songs. I’d forgotten about that. But it was “Wheel in the Sky”.
I’ve been trying to place his location in the diner but haven’t been able to yet. They showed us people at their table several times. The lovebirds who were to Tony’s left & to the front. The scouts who were to his left & behind him. I love the idea of Davey being the one.
i love the idea that this was a mystery that he gave us, that the clues are there, and that it’s possible to figure out what happened.
I’d like to go back and watch the premiere from this half season and see what I can find that points to the final scene. I thought that episode had an air of ‘finale’ to it, a sense of resignation... then everything seemed to go back to normal until Phil flipped out.
I also keep going back in my mind to the first part of this whole season, from over a year ago, and Tony’s near death experience. Also Christopha’s NDE and “Three O’clock.” How do those pieces fit? Has Chase given us the clues to solve this, or is it all a “Paul is dead” non-conspiracy conspiracy?
I’m also reminded yet again of Chase saying he knew how the series would end right from the beginning, so now I’m maybe going to have to watch La Cosa Tutti (the whole thing) again to look for clues.
What they wanted you to think was Tony looked up to see the guy coming out of the bathroom with a gun.
Yes... the series got "Whacked".. lights out, cooled to room temperature.. a dirt nap.... like that..
Uh oh. Might be a problem. I’ve been trying to find out exactly when the finale was shot. I found a date of March 22. If that’s right it won’t work. Unless they shot some of it somewhat earlier or later I don’t see how it could be Robert Patrick. He had a significantly broken arm around St.Patrick’s Day.
HA! I take it back. The scenes were shot at different times. There’s a continuity booboo.
Well, I read an article that quoted a guy named Paulo something, owner of a pizza chain in Newark, who says he was the dude, and they never referred to his character as anything but “The Mystery Man.” I fear the Davey Revenge angle may be a dead end. But it would have been SO SWEET!
I would’ve LOVED to have seen Davey just walk up to Tony & blow his brains all over the onion rings.
The Journey song and the resemblence of Paolo to Robert Patrick hearkened back to EP 29, “Bust Out.” That’s because the final song in that episode was “Wheel In The Sky” which reminds us of the Worm Ouroboros, symbolized by the onion rings. We’ve now pretty much eliminated the idea of Davey Scatino getting revenge, so I was wondering, how else could this ending represent coming full circle, closure? Then it hit me.
Blackout. Black Out. Tony has a blackout. Melfi has terminated therapy with him, and now he’s suffering the effects. We saw him start to speak to AJs therapist as if he was the one in therapy causing Carm to roll her eyes, and now Tony has another black out. End of story.
Sure, count me in!
