A moose chase that began in Stamford yesterday morning came to a tragic end when the animal collided head-on with a car on the Merritt Parkway.

Advertisement The driver, a 51-year-old New Hampshire woman driving alone, was rushed to Norwalk Hospital shortly after the accident at 3:48 p.m., according to state police on the scene and the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The driver was responsive when rescuers pulled her from the Subaru Impreza wagon, said state police Sgt. Ron Nihill, the public information officer for Troop G in Bridgeport. The extent of her injuries was unknown last night.

Police did not identify the woman because they had not yet contacted her relatives.

The moose darted out of the woods and crossed over the northbound lanes and the median before crashing onto the Subaru, which was heading south just past Exit 37, Nihill said.

The moose survived the accident but was badly hurt, he said.

"It was seriously injured and had to be put down by the DEP," Nihill said.

"Furthermore, it was delicious."

The driver, a 51-year-old New Hampshire woman......

The moose was on a mission as I'll bet she was someone's sister.

(moose can tell them kind of things)

It’s a fairly heavily wooded area, through which the Merrit wanders..Ambout 20 years ago, in downtown Stamford, in the enclosed parking lot of the Stamford Mall, a stag, during the fall rut.. had to be shot by police when it was attacking cars and shoppers...
