There'd have to be some air interchange--or should be. Otherwise there'd be a build up of CO2 and household cleaner chemicals and less than optimal oxygen.

In your normal USA home the only air exchange is through leaks in the building envelope.

I STRONGLY recommended and air-to-air heat exchanger for my clients. Super tight homes are not healthy as you obviously know.
