Latin players have replaced African-Americans as baseball's most prevalent minority because they are easier to control. Uh, if rebellion is on your mind when you walk out on the field, maybe THAT's the reason they don't want you.

No Sheff, the current dearth of "African American" MLB players is simply due to the fact that, as a group, they're not as interested in baseball as they once were. ....especially in comparison to basketball and football. The reasons for this are varied, but marketing has a lot to do with it.

Not really any English coming out of Gary Sheffield either. It's not often you see the words "theory" and "professional baseball player" or "athlete" in the same story. Now we know why.
To: Kid Shelleen
What a moron. "because they are easier to control"? The funny part is that his race-grievance theory ("it's discrimination against my race, because my race is like ____") is totally racist ("Latins are easier to control!").
He says he knows a lot of blacks who are at home who can outplay Latins who are playing. So he thinks that GMs intentionally release superior baseball players for inferior ones for the sake of being able to "control" (whatever that means) them?
This jackass makes X'ty million dollars a year, why doesn't he buy a baseball team and grab up all that wasted talent then. Supposedly he has identified an undervalued resource out there, the black baseball player who's sitting at home because he "can't be controlled". If he believed in his half-baked racialist theory, that's what he'd do.
I can't believe I even wasted that amount of brain cells on this stupid quote however.
To: Kid Shelleen
Ya, I don't want people offering me millions of dollars to play a game to tell me what to do.
Not rocket scientist material.

OK, now that Mr. Sheffield has duly impressed us with his intellectual analysis of the lack of Blacks in Baseball, maybe he can also explain the low percentage of Blacks in:
Tennis
Ice Hockey
Swimming
Sailboat Racing
Skiing
Water Polo
Professional Golf
/sarcasm
It all starts out on the playgrounds. Kids play what the other kids play and they play what is most popular with their friends or what is most convenient.

To: Kid Shelleen
Oddly enough, the Tigers have a fairly large percentage of black players but aside from himself, most of them aren’t big hitters.
On the other hand there are guys like Magglio Ordonez who had a 5 hit game last night including a home run, a couple of doubles and singles. Then there’s Placido Polanco who is a practically guaranteed RBI hitter. Pudge is a hitter and also arguably the best catcher in the game.
Personally I suspect it has more to do with the fact that we don’t play baseball as kids as much as we used to. In latin America it’s still a major passtime. Also, latin American blacks generally aren’t considered black.
