SP: Barry Zito, San Francisco, $10 million Next year it's $14.5 million. Then three years at $18.5 million. And then $19 million. And finally $20 million. We might as well save a seat, because 30 walks and 32 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings does not portend good things.I'll take the "homer" point of view here and say that Zito is still getting adjusted to a new league and a bunch of hitters he's never faced before.
That and Armando Benitez is...Outta Here!

"Overpaid" and "underpaid" are terms that have meaning only to the specific employer and employee under discussion. More specifically to baseball and professional sports, a team owner will pay a player according to his forecast about how much having that player on his roster will increase his revenues.
George Steinbrenner contracted to pay Carl Pavano what he did for that reason. He did not and could not foresee Pavano's season-ending injury; he was merely going with his best forecast for the pitcher's ability to win games and, by extension, put fans in the seats, in front of the idiot box, and at the merchandise counters.
It is a business, you know.

Thought you may find this interesting. I know who you think is the most underpaid for his talent, and he’s not on this list ;^)

Overpaid: Dodger cf
Juan Pierre--a low OPS out-machine with no arm and poor flyball skills who sole alleged strength, his speed, is belied by his pedestrian 75% base-stealing percentage. 5 years for
$55,000,000! Presently, his VORP is
0.0. To further aggravate me, he
never misses a game.
By the way, JD Drew was the most valuable NL rightfielder last year and will be fine in Fenway. Everyone has slow starts occasionally.

1) Apparently, what Bobby Abreu needs is National League pitching.
2) Not enough bad things can happen to J.D. Drew’s career since he refused to sign with the Phillies when drafted.

I would have to say David Ortiz, the man only makes 8.5 million compared to all the overinflated salaries some are getting and you get 50 homers and a big smile.
