Forge Masters Unspoken Question
Meditate upon the steel,
is it right for the work ahead.
Will it gleam on glowing ashes bed,
and whisper soft enough to feel?
Five pound hammer sets a gentle pace,
to turn the edge in endless folds.
In rhythms timeless and oh so old,
as steel flows as delicate as folded lace.
From red to orange and soft bright white,
the coals glow to bellows breath.
And as they swiftly die a fiery death,
they give life to steel in fires light.
Smaller hammers and gentle taps,
set the edge along the line.
and form becomes the thing so fine,
set in place by careful loving raps.
Spark dancers whirl on anvils top,
and crashing slips to ringing tones.
As softer now we near the stage to hone,
and let the loosened steel filings drop.
Long strokes set the edge so thin
a gleaming point along the line
and patience now must be so fine,
for the hardest part is yet to come again.
Once more into the well watched fire,
for temper is a fleeting thing at best
and only loving patience rewards the test
before we can know the thing weve sired.
Fitting the hilt and binding it well,
making the scabbard house with loving care.
Polishing the bright blade with lime dust fair,
and remembering the purpose fell.
It dances on the morning sun,
gleaming with a life all its own.
And it makes a chilling moan,
kissing the wind in hissing run.
A warriors soul, the makers too,
dedication in this highest art.
And only you know the hidden part,
taking part of you as it needs must do.
Where has it finally gone,
far from the birthing forge and coals.
Serving with honor for him and you, its toll,
will it return one day, some distant dawn?

Good morning everyone!
It fills my heart with to joy to see the
company that has visited me
while I have been drawn away to rest
a weary head, to a cool and comfy bed.
Entering the Lair, on a lovely June morn
I hear the laughter left in the room
and hear the echoes of Johnn's anvil ring
forging out a masterpiece.
Starbase has left another grand tour
of exotic lands with steamy streets
with tons of food stands filled to the top
for hungry wanders to stop and shop!
Lady Jag with her talented hands,
bring humour to our cyber land,
her graphics most well planned keep us laughing
just as she has planned.
NY Attitude, tries his hand at writing poetry
from the sandy lands,
he tells us tales of ancient lands
with huge sand dunes and wild camels.
So different we are in our lives
we come together here and write
of our adventures and our dreams
and leave them here for posterity!

starbase, this “Off The Beaten Path” is so filled with color!
The artwork is mysterious and intriguing. I love the old tree root piece, fantastic imagination that artist had.
The food stalls are both temping and mystifying! A wonderful show indeed, so well put together with your voice leading us around the winding exciting streets. The bridge picture is really grand.
Thanks so much.

Hey, remember poodle skirts?
LOL I sure do! Everytime I see this graphic I just crack up.

Thanks for your enthusiastic assessment Soaring. I had thought this tour was a little on the bland side! But you and Lady Jag both seemed to like it rather well.
I had to jump back and forth as I took the pictures of the foods, as people were constantly walking up and down the walk way. As a result, the food pictures are not of the clarity I had hoped for, it's so easy to blur the digital camera shots! Just move a hair and it will blur.
Very nice rousing summary poem in post #24. I can almost hear them chanting that one around the tables in Val Halla! (don't ask me why I said that, it's just what came to mind!) ;-)

I am so pleased you see that, and here's why, 'tis in me blood, 'tis in me blood!
See the bonfire in the back? Each and every year the Finnish people celebrate Summer Solstice (Juhannus) with several days of festivities.
On the Solstice the only time the sun does not set in Finland, a large bonfire is prepared on a raft in the middle of a lake. It is set on fire at dusk!
Yes, Val halla!
This is your hostess reading her work at Juhannus.

Lovely photos. How many people were there at the reading? It looks so much greener and more lush than I would expect the frigid great white north to look, way up there in Finland!

LOL Finland is green and lush, however this is not Finland, but NY State. At this Juhannus there were 100 souls.
You should take a Virtual Tour of Finland.

Ha I am half a nerd, I knew it, mom said I could only do things half assed, LOL. No she didn't.
To: Lady Jag
Hmm, mine's not as bad as I feared. It was a long test, though, I guess the truly nerdy would enjoy such a long test!

It gives us the power, To break through the barrier, The barrier that holds us back, To do what we lack.
This barrier that holds us, Is the one best known as, The curse of our land, The fear most of us defined.
Those who conquer this great foe, We call him a Hero. We call him brave, For he seems unafraid.
We say fear has been ejected, From the brave ones mind, But its actually extended, But was overacted by courage.
Its true bravery I say, That we fight for the day, Not without fear, But with the purpose to appear.

Good poem Lady.

Just Pondering
Savagery on a subtle wing
tiger eyes, jaws of steel
cloak of velvet, colored sublimely
nestled on a bed of flowers
the scent of sweet in his nostrils
and the butterfly, how does he/she feel,
melded with a killer tiger on it's velvet, soft back?
Stifled by an inability to fly, to soar heavenward
to caress a flower as it dips and weaves over head
how can this be done with a tiger on it's back?
