But will it feature a spandex-clad villainess a la the movie?
Where is Buster Crap when we need him?
The original serial movies from the 30s had obviously cardboard or wood ships, and cardboard /wooden acting...and the good guys generally wore Robin Hood style costumes while the bad guys had uniforms that looked suspiciously like off-cast Roman armor.
I’m thinkin’ they didn’t exactly have a splendiferous budget.
They were hilarious!
As a child my family took a vacation at the Concord hotel in the Catskills, a region better known as the “Borscht belt.” Think Dirty Dancing and you know the kind of hotel I mean. Buddy Hacket was the nightly entertainment in the lounge.
Buster Crabbe, the Flash Gordon of the 1930s serials, was down on his luck, so to speak, and was working as the “swimming pro” at this hotel (he had been a huge Olympic swimming medalist earlier in his career). He ran an exhibition series of events, including races by age, and I won the race for my 12 and under age group.
A little later when I was in the dressing room changing he came in and changed out of his swimsuit into normal clothes. In front of me. I saw Flash Gordon nekkid! I was marked for life and could never view that story without thinking about that!
But that’s my problem...
