At one point, a bunch of those really old Flash Gordon serials were put onto really cheap VHS tapes and sold at department stores, along with various other old movies that weren’t really much in demand. Dad, being the frugal guy he is, bought a bunch of those on sale, so we spent a lot of happy afternoons watching Flash Gordon and Tom Mix and Charlie Chan and other old, very un-PC cheese.

It was glorious...in its own way. ;-)

Haven’t seen the 80s Flash Gordon. Heh...I might have to get it from Netflix one of these days. Some sci-fi is so bad, it’s good, if ya know what I mean...

The 1980 movie was excellent campy bubblegum for the brain.

The sets can be described as Art Deco meets Disco...on acid.

I recommend it for some mindless fun.

Dino De Laurentis made a number of Italian Pop Art comic book films, often campy and generally stylish and fun.

Barbarella, Diabolik, Flash Gordon... Even when he didn’t direct, he produced.
