Need Computer Help - Creating PDF Documents
May 22, 2007 | Me

Posted on 05/22/2007 3:58:41 PM PDT by calcowgirl

Does anyone know a way to save a webpage (html) as a PDF File without the software automatically adding in page breaks?

I have tried the "Print to PDF" function, but it always puts in page breaks and I can't find any "preference" option that would allow me to turn that function off.

I have tried by using the "Create PDF" function in the Adobe Acrobat software. That does allow me to create a single page up to 200 inches, but I want it larger than that.

In short, I want the PDF file to be a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) document of the webpage.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dude, that's what they do in the ghetto. She deserves better than mere shortcuts and workarounds, doesn't she?! :O)

Actually, Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 is out now... But it’s a really, really large download compared to FoxIt (like 270MB, compared to FoxIt’s 2MB or so).

I’m going to have to see what might work best and how much long-term need I might have. Other than this exercise, my old copy of Acrobat has done me just fine. Not sure I want to invest $100 in this project alone.

I’m finding things in Acrobat that I didn’t even know existed. In using the “Create PDF from Webpage” function, I found the option to “save entire site.”

But by using the 11”x200” paper option, it applies that consistently as a fixed size... even if there is a web page that is only 6” long.

I guess I won’t be using that option this time.

Just checking out Foxit. FYI:

Foxit PDF Creator... $99.00 per user

That's insane. If they're charging by megabytes-per-software-downloaded, it should cost no more than 87 cents! :O)

BTW, What's the timeline on your project?

Given that you paid for Adobe Acrobat 6, I can look into getting you a (complimentary) valid serial number for the latest (Adobe Acrobat 8) version.

I'm not sure if the latest version of Adobe will resolve the problem, however.

Save them as html documents, not web pages.

This whole thread is a 38K html doc.....without page breaks.

I actually got Acrobat as part of the purchase of a scanner—but I don’t have all the records (or the disk)... I lost it during one of my office cleaning maneuvers. So, I’m not so sure I could give all the validations I need and might have to go for the full cost version of Acrobat 8 (if I choose to go that route). Thank you very much for the offer, however!

The timeline... I need to do most of it within the week. I’ll do some more research and sleep on it tonight and come to some decision.

I may just do that in the short run. It wasn’t my preference, but it may serve my immediate objectives.

That's okay. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bootleg or anything! (just teasing) :O) If I can find a way to help you upgrading (legitimately, of course) I'll send the info via FReepmail.

An .html file also has a distinct advantage over a .pdf.

The .pdf can only be rendered by Adobe or a FOSS clone while the .html file can be opened by any browser, any text editor or any html editor on any host operating system.
