Need Computer Help - Creating PDF Documents
May 22, 2007 | Me

Posted on 05/22/2007 3:58:41 PM PDT by calcowgirl

Does anyone know a way to save a webpage (html) as a PDF File without the software automatically adding in page breaks?

I have tried the "Print to PDF" function, but it always puts in page breaks and I can't find any "preference" option that would allow me to turn that function off.

I have tried by using the "Create PDF" function in the Adobe Acrobat software. That does allow me to create a single page up to 200 inches, but I want it larger than that.

In short, I want the PDF file to be a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) document of the webpage.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for the links.

I am adding foxit to my list to check out when I’m done here.

The user forums at www.adobe.com are great resources for questions such as yours.

Put in a really huge number for the HEIGHT

The hugest number it will let me put in is 200" (approx 20 pages). Is that the same for you?

The average size of what I want to save is equivalent to about 75 to 100 pages. The 200" is certainly an improvement, but not quite the "continuous" thing I was looking for.

Part of your problem lies in the way that you are perceiving the HTML page. They really have no fixed width, except for images. I think that Dan’s idea is probably the best. All you have to do is divide the character count by your page width to get a line count, and then convert the line count to height by dividing by the pitch.

If you didn't already ping him, pinging ShadowAce.

Sorry, but personally wouldn't be much help.

Excellent. Like I said above, I’ve been using FoxIt since 2003 or so, and it’s really great software. You will be surprised how much faster it is than Adobe as well.

I guess I should have thought of that! lol

But freepers are so much more fun!

I will check it out, however. :-)

For what it's worth, I too have received much better (and friendlier and faster) help on FR than any software or "Geek" forum.

Like one FReeper has in his or her tagline:

"Freerepublic.com: the best site on the web!"

200” is the max height in the custom option. I set it to a page size of 11x200 and it came close to what I need (although it also changes the paragraph spacing so I’m still hoping to find something that gives me a true WYSIWYG version).

If the other options don’t work, I’ll go with that.

Upgrade to Acrobat 7. It greatly expands the page length.

That might be an option. I currently have Acrobat 6.
