Jack Bauer Doesn't Jump - More's the Pity
Previously on "24' the show made sense.
But Monday night's finale, when we sat through 90 minutes of set-up, waiting for the usual slam bang finish, only to have a touchy-feely episode of "Grey's Anatomy'' break out, was the end.
The big finish, with Jack Bauer standing on coast, looking moodily out to sea, was some kind of weird Hallmark card for secret agents. I kept waiting for the cliff to blow up, or a black helicopter to appear on the horizon, but no, it was just our Jack, alone with his thoughts. And fade out.
Oh c'mon, you've noticed it. Jack Bauer has changed. And this was preceded by half an hour of some of the most tedious speechifying and long-winded monologues since the worst days of "Studio 60.'' Guys, if we wanted hand-holding and repressed true love we'd rent "Pride and Prejudice'' again.
We loyal viewers have put up with a lot of improbable nonsense over the years: convenient comas, sudden amnesia, and the fact that Jack Bauer could escape from bad guys by biting one of them to death. We stuck around through annoying antics of Kim Bauer, Jack's ditz daughter, and the death of beloved Edgar, who should never have been offed.
There were problems, sure. Even the show's creators admitted that they thought things had off track. So apparently, their solution was to take everything we liked about the show, everything that created the culture and premise of the Jack Bauer universe, and blow it up.

Nobody recovered “The Component”?????? Didn’t everyone see Grandpa hand it off to the Chinese guy just before Bill put him on the helicopter????
I love not knowing whether the incompetent Security guys even bothered to frisk him when Bill delivered him to CTU!!
Am I the only one who saw the (some kind of medical) machine Audrey was hooked up to? She didn’t wake up because she’s in a coma or doped up...that’s what I think. She can stay that way as far as I’m concerned...too skinny, and not worthy of Jack
Cloe preggers!!!...I think that’s oh so sweet, but let’s hope the writers spare us seeing what Morris’ baby looks like. Cloe is my fav character, so funny, and what would Jack do without her?
As for Audrey..like I said...she’s not worthy of Jack, but hey, his taste in women is pretty bad...especially that screeching, “want Jack bad”, sister-in-law.
Looking foreward to January all ready, but my suggestion is to go the “Moonlighting” route. When scripts get too iffy, go for the “dream sequence” cop out, where all things are possible. Jack as a little boy, shooting rats at the dump, with his Red Ryder BB gun. College. How he got recruited? Or heck fire, just disclose that our courageous Jack is a top secret, one of a kind cyborg...with a real cute butt.

This one explains the show’s premise better.
I think your right. I’m a wuss to pain, but both him, and Jack are pussys when it comes to women! At least I’m not that!
Another reason Jack Bauer is no Chuck Norris...
Thanks mucho for that funny line. I never thought our guy Jack was a jumper, but he walked to the edge still holding that honking big gun. I thought he would throw it over, in a grand gesture of swearing off violence forever....or till January.
And don’t forget Kim Raver. I haven’t seen such emoting since Meryl Streep learned a Polish accent.
A major disappointment. Bad case of writer’s cramp. Start out with a weak story and it will only get worse from there.
Write this year off. See if they can come back with a vengeance next year.
Naw... Jack's still cool. But his writers have lost their mojo :~)
Bump!
You didn’t give me your expert analysis of the 24 finale....and this thread is way too much fun for you to miss. Especially the fine photo of hunky Jack. (Not the one of him as the shark jumping Fonz.)
This season was vacuous and boring. Something got red-penciled late in the season and hasty rewrites resulted in a lot of nothing.
Bauer's last scene at the cliffs was hilarious. I think I actually saw him CRYING, for Pete's sake. Jack Bauer CRYING?!?
Keifer! Lock that trailer and stay there till they find your character again.
The author has a short memory - his dislike would be more appropriately aimed at the ending several years ago that had Jack crying in his truck.
This year’s cliff ending was right on: It was Jack alone looking straight into the face of his destiny and death was not far away.
The question is: how will this develop? Jack has come full circle, pushing the boulder up the hill only to have it roll back over him. How will the writers salvage this tragic character?
I can’t wait.
The part with Milos brother, showing up in the 5 a.m. hour, to clean out his locker, did seem farfetched.
lol. I didn’t even noticed what time it was. This season was a snoozer but I still like the show. I had high hopes after the first episode, but it went down hill quick. I still can’t wait to see Season 7 with hopes of having a better season. It must be hard to have great shows every single year. I know that shows always have stronger seasons than others from time to time. This and American Idol had a tough sixth season. Only can get better Season Seven....hopefully.
Who could forget her? Her last scene with Jack was my favorite, and I just hope it was the last time she'll be on the show!
At least Milo's brother got checked in by Security...he had a CTU badge hanging round his neck. The funny part I thought was the long, soulful look he shared with Nadia. That girl is such a flirt!! I'm thinking Milo's brother will be back in January.
My analysis....Daddy Bauer is still alive. He made it to the small boat and then the sub. But, what sense did it make for Chang to give him the component? It was a handoff totally out of character. Chang worked to hard too get that component to casually give it back to Daddy Bauer. At that point, he didn’t know he would be captured. Next season’s plot maybe? Or a plot for another season anyway.
As for Cloe, the next season will be at least a year down the road, so she will probably be a single parent dealing with those issues. I like Morris, but who knows if he’ll be with us.
