Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400

Richmond International Raceway

Welcome all to the the Nextel Cup race at Richmond International Raceway!

Since the first race in Richmond in 1953, the track has undergone three name changes, four configuration changes and one surface change, from dirt to asphalt.

Lights were also added to the facility in 1991. RIR is the only track to hold all of its major events under the lights.

Richmond's unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role.

The track's fall date is now the final race leading up to the 10-race Chase for the NextelCup.

Crown Royal Presents The Jim Stewart 400 at RIR is named after Jim Stewart from Houma, Louisiana, The winner of an essay contest sponsored by Crown Royal during the festivities leading up to the 2007 Daytona 500.
As guest of honor, Stewart will wave the green flag to start the race, as well as participate in the check and trophy presentations to the race winner in Victory Lane.
Crown Royal judged the finalists based on written and video submissions chronicling consumers' favorite "Crown-Worthy" moments, which is defined as a memorable moment or occasion deemed "worthy" of toasting with a Crown Royal cocktail in a responsible manner. Stewart's winning entry chronicled his moments growing up fishing with his father and later christening his own fishing boat with a toast to his father.

Yup, I was saying up thread, I don’t like this guaranteed 35...I say it don’t matter who ya are...take the top 43 fastest cars and that’s the way it is.

First caution for the Clabber Girl car taking a spin...

ESPNDeux misses the restart.

Sam Hornish ssschmoooks the wall.

I’m listening to the race with headphones in stereo and they’ve got microphones right on the track, you could hear Sam crunch the wall big time!

Atlanta’s a bit far for me. Besides, allergies have knocked me flat the last couple days.

If I really wanted a Kenseth car, I’ve got a few that are closer to me than that (including the one that won the 2003 Winston Cup).

I’m for running more than 43 at the big tracks, also.

This ESPN is really bad. Did you hear the basketball player saying he was an “owner”? At least, so far, JP Moveover has only been mentioned a handful of times.

Besides, as Robot pointed out yesterday on his weekly interview with Bob and Brian, it's kind of hard to hide the show car.

That’s Brad Dougherty, he played for Duke or UNC...I can’t remember...but, I do think he is a part owner of somebody’s car.

I seem to remember reading something earlier this week that NASCAR is looking at "tweaking" the top 35 rule. 'Tis a bit late for MWR (who actually qualified a car this week after burning all the past-champ provisionals on the #44).

I actually liked the old provisionals rule, especially before they stopped charging top teams for them.

JPMoveover burned out the right-front brake. He'll be in the next caution in about 3 laps.

Where’s Schrader? Did he not qualify? Saw Jon Wood in the 47 car but don’t see Kenny.

This is the Busch race, which Kenny didn’t attempt. He did miss the Cup race (Wood wasn’t entered in that).
