Couples kiss for first time - at wedding
News For The Soul ^ | April 27, 2007

An American couple going out for two years have enjoyed their first kiss - at their wedding.

Katie and Tim McAfee agreed to a sex ban and no kissing before they wed. The couple from Bismarck, North Dakota, are devout Christians.

They prayed with their parents for God's strength before going out on dates.

Tim, 25, touched his 24-year-old wife's lips for the first time at Bismarck's Evangel Temple.

Tim said his kiss with Katie was great but added: "I don't have anything to compare it with."

Katie's sister, Margie, 21, and her new husband Nadir Torres, 22 also took the same vow and were wed at the same ceremony minutes later.

All four Christians wanted to uphold biblical law on sexual purity and were worried even kissing each other could "light a fire," reports the Bismarck Tribune.

The girl's parents, Pam and Larry Rehn, prayed with the couples before letting them leave for a date. Both their daughters took a covenant of purity when they turned 13 and were given a purity ring to wear.

Pam said the newlyweds were "nervous" when the time came to spend their first night together after the wedding celebrations.

She told her new sons to be gentle with her daughters, then watched them walk home. "The girls kept looking back," Pam added.

Jesus said, “Let not your right hand know what your left hand does.”

Don't go there! ;-)

Cheers!

I don’t know, I think a photo of the couple might go a long way to explain some of this. Let’s not pretend this is sweet, it’s abnormal.

I think this is so cool. Neither one has to worry about previous out of wedlock kids, AIDS, syphillis etc.

How would they know?

They would say to themselves "that sucked" and decide not to do that again.

Actually, it's quite refreshing to see people decide to follow the tradtional rules about marriage - aka known as "waiting until you're married". I see some comments, saying that to wait until marriage to even kiss is unnatural. Well, it is definitely true that one thing leads to another...

When my intended and I decided to marry (and neither of us youngsters at the time) we soon realized (I mean in the first 1/2 hour of our engagement) that if we wanted to wait until marriage, the engagement had to be a short one. We became betrothed around midnight, and at 7 the next morning were married up near Lake Tahoe...

The fault was the mothers for not educating her daughter SOMEHOW of what sex was about.

They’d know. Somethings are just innate.

I also have a friend who’s mother was 17 when she got married and didn’t even know what sex was.

Years ago I remember reading Loretta Lynn's autobiography. She got married at around 13 and she, too, didn't know what sex was. She thought babies came from the cabbage patch. She had no idea what her husband was doing to her on their wedding night, and she had several kids before she finally figured out the connection.

Can’t think of one good Christian counselor who says one should wait until the wedding to kiss your intended spouse.

Whether they're "good" or not is debatable, but there's at least one married couple going around to church youth groups spreading this message. My wife's nephew was all about not kissing his girlfriend (now fiancee) after seeing them, although I suspect they might have fallen off that particular wagon in the years since.

One gets the distinct sense that neither of them has a clue about what they're going to do on their wedding night and (according to my wife, who's talked to her) the girl seems deeply weirded out or simply delusional about the whole idea.

I agree. My friend told me that right before the wedding her mom wispered in her ear that her groom was going to do some things to her and she needed to just lay there and let him.

UGH, I could never let my kids get married and not tell them about sex if they had no idea what it was. Talk about cruel!

If yu are thinking of Joshua Harris, who wrote "I Kissed Dating Goodbye", Townsend and Cloud, as well as James Dobson, have a dim view of his views.

I find that weird. I mean come on that is just creepy. I can understand saving yourself for marriage but no kissing? I can just see these two as being very immature especially for 24 and 25. I would love to know how they turn out twenty-five years from now, but of course we will never know.
