BOSTON -- It may take DNA experts to finally settle the rumors surrounding Curt Schilling's famous bloody sock.
Baltimore Orioles broadcaster Gary Thorne said on the air last night that Schilling painted the sock red as a public relations stunt in the Boston Red Sox's Game 6 win over the New York Yankees in the 2004 AL championship series.
"It was painted," Thorne said during the Orioles-Red Sox game. "Doug Mirabelli confessed up to it after. It was all for PR."
But Mirabelli, Boston's backup catcher, later denied ever talking to Thorne, telling the Boston Globe that Thorne's comment was "a straight lie." Mirabelli was expected to be available before tonight's season-finale against the Orioles.

The Schilling's sock in the Hall Fame shows black blood, not red paint.
The Doctor that did the surgery was on WEEI at 1:30. The nit wit from ESPN should be fired.
“If the sock shows paint...World Champions they ain’t!”
(Or something like that.)
Does somebody actually care about this at this point?
Can you impeach a pitcher for leading a team into battle under false pretenses?
This seems like a bizarre effort at character assassination unprovoked. Are Yankee fans really that sore that the Red Sox won a Championship? Still?
Since when did ‘jerry-rigging’ get changed to ‘jury-rigging’ which is completely different? I’ve only noticed this over the last year or so. Does the author not know the difference or is this some new PC-ism?
Just another Democrat still pi$$ed of he campaigned for Bush in 2004.
So, did he fake it all?
Yes.
What incompetence in reporting!
The President of my Kiwanis Club didn’t come to today’s meeting because the Sox swept the Yankees last weekend. You bet they’re sore. Every member put a Happy Dollar in the frying pan to rejoice in his absence.
Actually Doug, didn’t just say “a straight lie”, he called out Thorne as a F#@king liar!!
And Epstein did have a comment.

Oh good gracious yes. It just kills them that they can’t hold the curse over our heads anymore. Even if it were true, so what? It isn’t like he cheated. Buncha’ whiners.
Also, an “they are still upset, go figure” ping to my hubby.
Should make for an interesting game tonight (weather permitting).
Maybe an even more interesting pre-game
Nothing better to do...
