Hummingbird Moths are really weird... unlike hummingbirds, they are very loud, too. Sound a lot like a carpenter bee close up - but so big they make you duck when you catch them out the corner of your eye.

Carpenter bees, I haven’t thought of them in years.When I was a kid my brothers and sisters use to catch the white faces bees with our bare hands.
