Please ping me too if anyone knows a great laptop for a writer. All I need is a large screen, MS Word, and the ability to use email. I want to be able to store and recover files on a CD but don’t give a darn about music, videos, entertainment stuff. I just need a little workhorse. Used would be OK, I think. Or would it?
Thanks,
Ms. Veto

I’ve got a Compaq V5000 with a wide screen that has been trouble free. It is heavy on the battery consumpion tho...

Do you move it around much.... There is a mother of all laptops to date... 17 lb with a 20.1 inch screen and mirrored drives. Very much a portable desktop replacement. Add a couple of raid5 USB drives and you are pretty well immune from hardware failure if you do regular backups.

I don’t have a laptop recommendation, but I would suggest a flash drive instead of burning CDs if you are moving files between computers.
I bought one after I saw one at work. I now work on files at home and at work simply by plugging it into the USB port. Best thing I ever bought and since the files are on the drive if you do a lot of writing you can move them between computers with ease.
