It’s more that they share a utopian worldview - ‘free’ software for everyone - the implication being that your intellectual property has no value. Scratch the surface, and you’ll most likely find other messianic and in some cases, megalomaniac worldviews.
I leave it as an excercise for our readers to examine the similarities in worldview to other utopian types.
There’s quite a number of us who use Linux simply because we see it as a superior OS.

I’m on the OSS bandwagon because it’s a better product. There are several freepers who are the same.

I understand what you’re saying, but as a general applicable rule of thumb, they’re leftists.
Be they greens, communists, socialists, anarchists, liberals, progressives, athiests, journalists, altruists, or any of the other many ‘ists’ that we’ve all seen.
They are not big fans of free economic/market based systems.
