It isn’t so much that they’re leftists, althought I’m sure that many of them are. It’s more that they share a utopian worldview - ‘free’ software for everyone - the implication being that your intellectual property has no value. Scratch the surface, and you’ll most likely find other messianic and in some cases, megalomaniac worldviews.
I leave it as an excercise for our readers to examine the similarities in worldview to other utopian types.

Rob Enderle is not a credible news hack on the topic of Linux.
For an eyeful check out his pro-SCO ravings in the
SCO-vs.IBM&world case on Groklaw, such as:
http://www.groklaw.net/articlebasic.php?story=20040810032827912
Here’s a search of all the Enderle hits on Groklaw:

Not sure how long that snipurl result will be valid.
Groklaw’s own search engine threw an error.
Dell may in part be looking at Linux on lappies
because of customer resistance to Vista (see
another thread today on that topic). The only
thing dumber than buying a Vista PC is buying a
Vista laptop.
LOL
If it works and is safe, I'm all for using stuff that leftist Utopianoids give away for free.
Other than dabbling with it every so often (the Knoppix 5 DVD is neat), I don't really use linux on a daily basis.
I keep meaning to put it on one of my machines to find out if my old unix command line brain files aren't completely degraded by now.
Besides, if linux makes the Microserfs at HQ squirm in their shorts, all the better.
that is a stupid statement. many windows users are leftist. in fact, most leftist i know own windows or buy macs and they cost out the %#@. the only linux users i know personally are business tech people who are in it for the money and are hardcore conservatives.
speaking of macs, this a business model dell could do well to copy with their linux desktop.
if they limit the computers they build to just a few models they can test the available software that they will use and build a rock solid desktop.
unlike your typical windows box you can cram TONS of software on a linux box without dragging down the OS.
if the user has all the software they need, and the software is working they will need very little support.
Linux is about free. Free feels cheap... bad model.
