Definitely not the only reason, and likely not the main one, that being having the users run as users and not as admin.

That is what I have always thought. Of course, as is stated, if you are not running as root (which most Mac users do not...you have to jump through a few hoops to do it) then the other users data is safe, but your own data is at risk.
