High Blood Pressure Remedies

Posted on 04/20/2007 11:52:43 AM PDT by hsmomx3

I am one who prefers to try an alternative form of treatment as opposed to a presecription.

Has anyone had success taking COQ10 vs taking a prescribed blood pressure pill from your doctor?

Geesh!!

I wonder if the effects of getting off the Rx meds to an alternative are far worse than if one is taking nothing at all.

That’s terrible!

CoQ 10 and grape seed extract have both worked for me. But then, my blood pressure wasn’t that high yet. It was high enough for my doctor to get concerned, but still in the so-called pre-hypertensive range. The two supplements have helped to bring it down. I told my doctor I was taking these supplements.

Press assure by vita pharmica is what I used. You can find it at health food store. From what I understand it comes for a Chinese remedy.

My daughter pointed me to this one the other day: http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/11570.cfm
for research on various herbals.

Also, http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/ may have info to consider.

A co-worker was selling the drink and talked her into trying it. She did not consult her doctor before stopping her meds. Her pressure is very high and she was only 45 years old at the time of her stroke. She is sooooooooooo lucky to be alive. She did not suffer any side effects and the doctors called her the miracle lady! :)

Anything that changes the consistency of your blood must be gradually stepped away from, including nicotine, caffeine.

I've taken it for many years. Has not improved my BP but I do believe it is essential for heart and organ health as it is suppose to be instrumental in the absorption of oxygen. I do take a mild BP medicine also.

As they say exercise helps. Last month I moved my office. Just moved something everyday for a month. My BP dropped 20 points. I thought my machine was broken but the doctor visit showed the same thing.

You really need to discuss this kind of thing with your doctor. High blood pressure can be very serious. My husband had a stroke because of it last year. You don’t want that. I take Atenolol myself. I hate it because it aggravates my carpal tunnel, but it beats the alternative. It really does need to be properly controlled. I think talking it over with your doctor is the best avenue. He or she may know of something & knows your situation. I didn’t take it as seriously as I should have myself. But after having witnessed a stroke I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I have seen selenium drop my blood pressure 20 points in minutes, but not consistently enough to stop taking medication.

I would think sodium reduction and weight reduction would be the best thing you could do for yourself. Now if I could only follow my own advice............

In 2001 my BP was 156/104. My doctor put me on Zestril. I took it for years. Then a few years ago I was having trouble with my BP being too low and getting dizzy very easily. She took me off the meds. It seems that lowering stress at work, cutting back on black tea, switching to real green tea, exercising and eating right for a few years cured it. I’ve not taken meds since. I check my BP and I am usually not far from my high school BP.

Don’t fool around with hypertension.I did and I’m now paying the price...a heavy price. The medications available have few side effects and,in many cases, aren’t expensive.
