Absolutely! The only way we can try to keep them safe is to be informed.

If this ping list is in place I will probably, from now on, NOT ping articles that are about the regulatory or investigation aspects of this... only the articles that are directly about dogs. If you want to follow the day by days of the investigation, then you will want to get on this ping list. :~)

Ping!

Their “update” list is 3 days old already.

Color me cynical, but at this point, I’m not trusting them as far as I can thow them....:-\

Earlier this month I took a part-time job as in-store rep for Hill's Science Diet pet foods. It was right at the time when this pet food scare came out. I thought 'jeez, do I need this?.

Well, I'm happy to say that Hill's Science Diet has answered my fears. The only two products affected were Science Diet Feline Savory Cuts (can) and Prescription Diet Feline m/d (dry). Both were voluntarily recalled and are off the shelf. Also, Hill's has announced that the four products that contain rice protein (the most recent recall announcement) have been tested and found free of melamine contaminant, and are from sources of rice protein other than that which was found to be contaminated.

I do this as a part-time job in retirement. I'm not writing to push Science Diet; only to state that, thus far, I've found Hill's to be a real stand-up company.

I don’t blame them, they didn’t make the wheat gluten, they just bought it from what they thought was a reliable source. They have made as much effort to help in this matter as anybody could realistically ask........

FWIW, the FDA recall spreadsheet lists ALL the recalls, not just the one from Menu Foods. And it is updated very frequently. For example. right now thw sheet lists 50+ brands.

Check it out.

Since Canada is the second-largest -exporter- of wheat, I see no reason they needed to *import* it in the first place....except for the “Almighty Bottom Line”.

I had switched to Blue Seal foods when this began but they use Menu Foods for *one* product.

I returned the food and bought something made in the US of A.

It’s *my* dogs whose lives may be at stake so I can be as radical and “Irish” about this as I want...:)

If what I read yesterday is true - that China will not allow the FDA inspect the facilities - then China just moved ahead of Iran on my “To Bomb” list. Cooking for four dogs with different tastes and needs is getting old. :o)

Hi M4K!!! I haven't had much free time to FReep recently (but have kept up w/the ANS threads--thanks again for the pings!!!) Please add me to your pet food list...it keeps changing and we have an 'old girl' of thirteen (a shelter saved, mixed breed terrier) who has been having a little problems with us changing her food (due to the recalls of the canned stuff). We are worried about her...could be her age, but also could be from bad canned food months ago. I'll look for the pings...

Many thanks, PaMom

Please include me on your list!

I still just can’t believe this is happening.
Wondering when it will start to affect ‘people’ food....

A friend on mine’s cat got hit by the bad IAM’s cat food *before* anyone even heard of all this.
The cat is a heavy milk drinker and the friend later found that calcium helps to bind to the nasty stuff and detoxify it somehow.

Her [20 year old!] cat is slowly but surely recovering with no medical intervention at all.

[she thought it was just old age finally getting him]

If you can get your baby to drink as much milk as possible, it *might* help.

[I hope so anyway...prayers for your sweet ol’ gal going up]

Global market, global problems. As with anything else, the mfr wants to lessen his production costs. A Chinese import is less than his domestic, so he makes the logical choice, all other things being equal. But in this case, they were not equal, i.e. contaminated product from China. Has anybody found out how this “rat poison” got into the wheat gluten in the first place?.......

This morning was on the news that THE CONTAMINATED RECALLED PET FOODS HAD BEEN SOLD TO A HOG FARM AS WASTE FOOD. THE FARM IS NOW QUARRENTINED AND TESTS ARE BEING DONE ON THE HOGS TO SEE IF IT IS IN THEM!........

“This IS big news..........”

Agreed. I was taking a sarcastic swipe at the problems our allegience to the chicoms is causing. This is the tip of the iceberg.

The new theory is that it was intentionally added to artificially boost weight/protein content.

Heinous, IMO.
