Those are some pretty vanilla....... dare I say old configurations.

The only thing I can think of is because they’re laptops?

But if you don’t have the time, then neither do I. :-P

But if you’ve already had success with RH9, my suggestion is to stick with RH............ Give Fedora a shot.

Infact I liked the Ubuntu presentation and desktop,sharp and clean, but something strange about me, I guess, I really need my mouse to work!

The single biggest problem with Linux is there is no standard package management software. And I keep thinking Hey, this is supposed to be open source, why the heck are they making software sharing so difficult...??? But each one gets into their own pseudo-proprietary kick and whatever distro you chose, you’ve already locked yourself out of 90% of the development community.

Doesn’t make sense.
