Great, there’s certainly some room for improvement, but there is probably nothing that will stop the leftist kooks at the Free Software Foundation from demanding patents on software be eliminated completely, which isn't going to happen.

Agreed, Stallman will blowviate to no end about software patents. Fortunately while he is high profile and recognizable in the OSS movement he does not speak for all OSS users.

What would be great
1) Shorten the time for software patents to be effective. 5 years is long enough
2) Reign in stupid patents (like the ‘shopping cart’ fiasco) It should truly be unique, nonintuitive, and not just a combination or alteration of a previous concept.
