It also came out that a professor knew two years ago that the gunman had “issues”, wore sunglasses all of the time, never made eye contact and he made the PROFESSORS uneasy so she tutored him alone in her office. Why wasn’t more done to get him the counseling he needed?

Why wasn’t more done to get him the counseling he needed?

I think it is very easy to have 20-20 hindsight and to second guess how events occured on the way to "now". Humans take great pleasure in engaging in such activity.

The problem with the notion of "getting him more couseling", IMO, runs us down the road of the nanny state just a bit much for my taste. We need to guard very carefully against the authorities becoming just a bit too paternalistic.

The issue in all of that is, well, who's model do we use to define "normal"? And do we really want sameness? Besides being a bit dull, it's also dangerous--what if the unity points us down the wrong path?

No. I'd rather try and take a step back and put this into perspective, as hard and as extremely difficult as it might be at this stage of the game. Such an exercise is made more difficult by the very load rhetoric being voiced by a lot of agencies pursuing this or that agenda.

At the end of the day, however, as tragic as this event is, it is also, most thankfully, something that is very very rare. Look carefully at the media reports--comparisons have to be drawn with events of over 40 years ago to draw parallels. Years span between even other mass murder events on campuses in America, and yet we have had tens upon tens of millions of students roll through these institutions otherwise unharmed.

It is an extremely tragic event, but it is also a singular event.

Let's keep that in mind as folks try to use this to curtail our rights.

Good Morning, Chairman and everyone.

No TV for me today...can't take anymore. I've had it up to here w/the media's agenda of gun control. Cho was able to slaughter 32 people because no one else had the means to put him down.

I've looked in every nook and cranny...scarcity of GOOD news today, so I'll predict some: Warmer weather is on the way!

Endless prayers for our dear Kay and her family as well as for the families and friends of the innocents killed at VT.

As for the souless monster who stole their lives and their futures, I cannot understand why this English major had not flunked out already or why he was not expelled for setting a fire in a dormitory. His poor parents and sister are his victims as well.

The sky is a beautiful Texas blue, the temperature hovers at 59 degrees, the bluebonnets are in bloom, the daiseys and wine cups are swaying in the breeze and the Mexican poppies are making their appearance. It’s a beautiful day in Texas.

Good Morning Everyone on this wonderful April day.

Prayers for kay’s peaceful passage to the otherside. Prayers for her wonderful family during this time.

There is a reply to you about Edwards on yesterdays thread.

Just checking in for a minute. I got the rec room dusted and mopped, and am contemplating my next project.

I just heard on Fox that the Supreme Court upheld the partial birth abortion ban, and said it did not violate a woman's constitutional rights!

Good Morning to All.

Continued prayers for our beloved Kay and her family.

The only advantage of being swamped with work is that I have not spent endless time with access to the news.

I’m off to raise more he!!

GOOD A.M. HONORABLE CHAIR, ALL, FROM THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST, USA, BRUISED AND FEMA S-L-O-W IN GETTING THINGS ON TRACK!!!

Well, it rained hard last night and is just now starting to pull out of here. Ever notice? Weather is good for conversation any time, a good way to start he day.

The mind is a very strange and dangerous thing, this having been proved at VT. Sometimes we might think a person is just strange, but really a bomb ready to blow. My prayers are with the families of the deceased and, with those students at VT. It is good to see the students come together and something like this will do that. I know we are going to pray for the families of the deceased and the wounded at prayer service tonight, I am bringing it up.

We are so upset to learn that Allie’s 13 year old friend has started drinking. Her father is a alchohlic and the husband to a step sister is letting her drink his booze, I am also afraid that this jerk is taking ‘advantage’ of her
Her mother told us of this and it really hurts us to learn this.

I have started planting the garden. got me some Mississippi Heirloom tomatoes and my Better Boy’s, I really had success with these last year. Course I have to plant enough to supply some neighbors along with us, just my way of doing things. Turnips and Mustard green I will have plenty of even if I can only eat a very few because of some medications I take. Grits I have no problems with and might plant TWO whole rows of them this year, I think I have enough seed grits to do this.

Somehow my neighbors dog got into the backyard and now am missing two of my chickens Janet Reno and Barbra Boxer. I most likely am going to have to mail order some chicks and turkeys......don’t think the farm store is going to get any more.

As a warm day we are to have today WITH Sunshine later on, I will continue to get me a sun tan as I work, D gets on me all the time as I wear no shirt or hat, I have done this all my life and enjoy it.

Just wanted to get my day started and with all having a good day, a happy one, a safe one and most important, a loving one.

By the way, the press asking their normal stupid questions at the VT press conference.
Toby

I read your reply, MM, and of course you're right...my own view is narrow because we really know him here. I remember the first time I set eyes on him when he was running against Lauch Faircloth (who was no great shakes, I'll admit).

I had gone to the BBQ that a Charlotte church gives annually and where political candidates show up to glad hand. He was pumping hands and courting votes along a rope line. I wasn't impressed then (or later) and passed right by him and others, who seemed more eager to press the flesh. (I liked the BBQ though.)
