Was he wearing his helmet....or perhaps wearing an ill-designed helmet?
"Back of the head" sounds like no helmet, eerily reminiscent of the recent "no seat-belt" gubernatorial accident.

I read about it in the Syracuse news on line and he was wearing a helmet and was hit below the helmet and above the shoulder pads. They feel he may have had an underlying abnormality. I guess medical treatment was started immediately but with bleeding in the brain there is not much to be done in the field....my heart breaks for this family...
