Yep. Pretty much.

I think it has more to do with the fact that spider venom is a neurotoxin.

Since it would be (I'm assuming) a topical application instead of a compound that was ingested, it could deaden the nerve receptors in the...err...appendage without the Vioxx-type side effects.
