Imus statement was the culmination of 20 years of steady degridation of the culture. The stuff that's on TV now wouldn't have been allowed when I was young. People would have been arrested for violating public decency.

Our culture has become coarse, vulgar, and cruel. It is unbelievable what people will say on radio ant TV, and no one calls them on it. We had a talk radio show here in town (which is nationally syndicated) have a female call-in guest URINATE over the phone, on air.

And people wonder why I mostly listen to Catholic radio.

I don't feel sorry for Imus at all. He spent too many years trashing all sorts of innocent people and simply crossed the wrong person...Hillary if you ask me.

One good thing about this is that I am hearing a lot of discussion about the lyrics in rap music, which I think is long overdue for some criticism. And also a lot of people are asking how Al Sharpton got involved, and who made him and Jesse the arbiters of all that is right, given Tawana Brawley.
