A Tara High School science teacher, accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old student, including one occasion at the school, was arrested last week.
Jamie Lynn Armstrong, 23, was booked Thursday into Parish Prison on counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffs Office spokesman Fred Raiford said.
Armstrong, 8939 Jefferson Highway, Apt. 206, was released Friday on $20,000 bond.
She will be removed from the classroom and placed on paid administrative leave, East Baton Rouge Parish school spokesman Chris Trahan said. The school will conduct an internal investigation.
Trahan could not provide details of Armstrongs employment Monday.
The female student was not in Armstrongs class, but Armstrong tutored her several times a week, Raiford said.
The girls father reported her missing on Wednesday when he found a note saying she was running away.
When deputies arrived at the fathers home, he showed them his daughters diary, where she detailed sexual encounters with Armstrong, Raiford said. The father found the diary a month earlier but his daughter convinced him it contained fantasies.
On Thursday, the father contacted the daughter and they arranged to meet at a restaurant on Jefferson Highway, Raiford said. A deputy who was also waiting for her at the restaurant saw the girl leaving Armstrongs Jefferson Heights Apartments complex just down the street.
The girl and Armstrong were later interviewed by the deputy and both said they had consensual sexual relations since February, Raiford said.
In the girls interview, she told deputies she had visited Armstrong at her residence on several occasions and had sex with her at least three times, an affidavit of probable cause said. The girl had sex with Armstrong the night she left home and stayed with her that night.
One sexual encounter occurred at the school, the affidavit said.
Armstrong told deputies she knew the relationship was inappropriate because it was with a student, the affidavit said. But she said the girl told her she was 17 years old.
State law says a person can be arrested for felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile if the person is at least 19 years old and has sex with a person who is at least 13 but younger than 17.
Lack of knowledge of the juveniles age shall not be a defense, the statute says.
The penalty for violating the law is a fine of up to $5,000 and up to 10 years in jail.
Armstrong graduated from LSU in May 2006 and is certified to teach chemistry, physics and general science, according to the state Department of Education.
Not proven.
Parents, pay attention.
Guilty.
Coached by Pokey Chapman, maybe?
I agree, I'm withholding judgment until the better pics evidence comes in.
you on vacation or something?
need more pictures...heh heh heh...;)
Going by that pic, I must say INNOCENT. The fact that lesbianism was involved doesn’t hurt either. A better pic would be nice.
Agreed...maybe even some pics of the alleged offenses...
Ehhh....I agree, not proven.
Although I think the rule goes, if you hesitate for more than three seconds before declaring guilt or innocence, the answer is probably guilty.
