April 10, 2007, Tuesday, DESICCATE

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

DESICCATE

Pronunciation: 'de-si-"kAt
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): -cat•ed; -cat•ing Etymology: Latin desiccatus, past participle of desiccare to dry up, from de- + siccare to dry, from siccus dry -- more at SACK
transitive verb

1 : to dry up
2 : to preserve (a food) by drying : DEHYDRATE
3 : to drain of emotional or intellectual vitality
intransitive verb : to become dried up

My brain is desiccated from learning how to use this computer! If I've made errors, please forgive me.

Being partly of English stock, and Proper English at that, my humor has a dessicate quality to it. In other South Florida news, the cat experienced her first thunderstorm today. Mom, who is flying back to California via New York tommorrow, informs me that the cat was not at all bothered by the storm. This puzzled Mom, until I told her that the cat is not merely a Queen, but actually a God Queen. Therefore she must be angry at her subjects and believe that she has willed the thunder and lightning out of vengeance. Even now, she is calm and cool, oblivious to to pain of those who suffer her wrath.

I really have to get a good photo of this cat for a zot photo. When she gets going, she makes a face that would make any mad scientist or serial killer proud.

“I” will not imply any reason about why the (or how) the crossword puzzle got messed up on the bed in the Slippie household last night, so I won’t mention anythong what a terrible mess the silk Twister game sheet was in either ....

Home from work at last-yesterday was a madhouse and today has been nearly as bad-everyone wants stuff done yesterday-

How must the coolest April
In the USA in years
shock the envirowackos
And reduce Al Gore to tears

Showing their pet theories
For a bunch of alarmist crap
Now maybe fewer people will
Fall into the junk science trap

All the Chicken Little howling
From the desiccated hippie bunch
Are enough to make my teeth itch
And want to lose my lunch
