This idiot is holding a gun (yes, I know he looks like an idiot, but please refrain from comments on his appearance) that I can't identify. Does anyone know what it is?

Looks like some Mauser broomhandle knock-off.

The guy in the foreground looks like one of the recent british hostages. I don’t know why he would be afraid of a firing squad—the guy with the gun doesn’t look like he could hit the broad side of a camel.

Yeah, except Mausers don’t have a Browning style guide rod and slide.

The gun isn’t nearly as scarey as the crazy guy holding it. Which way is he looking to shoot?

Yeah. I was taken in by the mag position and lanyard loop.

Gotta be some off-beat thing made in a small, developing (a.k.a violent) country. Or maybe an avante-garde, futuristic thing made in Hungary? (Just kidding...)

You got to admin, it’s hard to look at the gun with that face behind it!

Hope an expert checks in soon. I’m dying to find out.

“Which way is he looking to shoot?”

Thank you for making me laugh. It just struck me funny when I read your statement and looked at his eyes. It was the first good laugh I had all day. Thanks again!

I kinda feel bad for a guy that looks like that—hope his name isn’t Sue. I wonder: Was he born that way, or does he have an interesting story? (Or, more likely, a sad story.)

Maybe a Vz 61 Skorpion. Hard to tell. The picture is blurred.

— Maybe a Vz 61 Skorpion.

Fixed barrel, no guide rod. I missed it too. The eyes weirded me out.

Holding the gun as he is and with that look on his face it makes me wonder if he can shoot around corners.

I remember an reading article from about 2002 (I think in Soldier of Fortune) showing guns that were being made by locals for use in the Kashmir conflict. Some of the guns were quite odd, showing combinations of different designs. I rembered the article because one of the guns looked like a copy of a broomhandle with different features. Maybe this came from a similar background?

Look again - forward magazine, forward ejector port.

Not a 1911.

The guy eyes are looking in two directions at once. That’s the sign of a real soldier.

Lugers don’t have guide rods and they don’t have a Browning style slide.
