(All based on the supposition that what I read on this site is correct) Phelps is also a Lawyer, as are at least some of his children. I believe he also ran for office as a Democrat. Westboro baptist could, be styled a cult since most of the people in it are relatives of Fred. I suspect—but can’t confirm—that they attempt to get in your face to get a response and then litigate or threaten to litigate a settlement to fund their activities.

Somewhere the KS Republican party might want to maintain a research file on his political affiliation and political activities and brief every Republican running for office so they can counter media assumption and smears.

“John Edwards, Esq., Hillary Clinton, Esq., President Bill Clinton, Vernon Jordan, Esq., Richard BenVenista, Esq., Reverend Jessie Jackson, Reverend Al Sharpton, Rev Fred Phelps, Esq., all Democrats. Yuk! Don’t blame us. Pheuw!, he’s your boy!”

You are absolutely correct on a couple of points: (1)Most of Westboro's "church" members are extended family (though some very long time friends, etc.); (2)Phelps has aligned more on the democRAT party than Republican, though if we truly had an official "Goof-ball" or "Weirdo" Party, he'd be a card carrying member.

Finally, Fred Phelps is certainly NOT a Christian and neither party is desirous of encouraging him to be a member!
