What you describe sounds like something in the Herpes Virus Family — sort of like shingles, only on your hands?
Yes, that was the consensus the first time around. It’s closest to that. It’s systemic now, not contact - altho it seemed like contact at first.
All I’m doing is putting hydrocortisone cream on it when the itching is unbearable, which happens when I’m stressed. Mostly, I just run them under cold water when it’s not quite so bad.
Another FReeper had almost the same thing, except just in the webs between the fingers and her Dr. didn’t know for sure, either. But he started by seeing if it was scabies - and I haven’t seen that poster again, so I don’t know the outcome.
It really did seem like it could have been mites biting at first - 100s of tiny bites - paper mites, is what I thought. But now it just arises on its own.
I also thought maybe a fungus type thing like athlete’s foot - it started when I was scraping out the insides of some sugar pumpkins at Thanksgiving and had microscopic scrapes on my knuckles and fingers - and pumpkins had some kind of bad fungus year - so I thought that was a possibility.
