That might be the one you’re thinking about but I think Bird was a trumpet player. Like you said he was jazz. Robert Johnson was a bluesman from the south and he died in the 30’s or 40’s I think.

From wikipedia

27 Club

Members of the 27 Club (left to right): Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones.
Members of the 27 Club (left to right): Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones.

The “27 Club” is a popular culture reference to a group of several rock, and blues musicians, who experienced a successful career that was cut short by a drug-related death at age 27. The musicians are:

* Brian Jones (February 28, 1942 – July 3, 1969) (The Rolling Stones) — Drowned in his swimming pool.
* Jimi Hendrix (November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) — Asphyxiated on vomit while sleeping after presumably unintentional overdose of sleeping pills
* Janis Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) (Big Brother & The Holding Company, The Kozmic Blues Band, Fill Tilt Boogie) — Heroin overdose
* Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) (The Doors) — heart failure
* Kurt Cobain (February 20, 1967 – c. April 5, 1994) Lead singer and guitarist for Nirvana —Suicide (Although some dispute he was murdered).
* Robert Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938) — homicide by poisoning.

Five were rock stars in the prime of their careers and have since been immortalized as legends in the Blues Hall of Fame, and rock ‘n’ roll. Some have noted an eerie coincidence in the timing of the deaths of Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison, as well as Morrison and Jones dying on the same date, two years apart. Robert Johnson is considered the founding father of the infamous “27 Club”.

Trisha,

Ya know what would be cool? A movie about the life of Howlin’ Wolf. There is a documentary about him that was interesting, but a movie would be better.

A movie about Robert Johnson would be hard to do. There’s so much unknown about him. But it would be very cool too.

Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorcese are good at these types of movies.

Anna tie in...if it was true that she said she would die at the same age of Marilyn Monroe. Alot of these musicians predicted their deaths. Jim Morrison after Janis and Jimi died said “I’m the 3rd”. Supposedly when Kurt Cobain died his mother said “He’s gone and joined that stupid club”.

Honkey Tonk man was the movie I was thinking about I think the one with Ralph Machio sounds more like the right story, however.

Yes, i know Robert Johnson from Bird and Bird from Howlin Wolf. I’ve read books about these guys among many other musicians. I thought that maybe AZ Carolyn forgot who the story was about.

I saw Bird. It was a pretty decent movie.

I need to start listening to real blues music. Most of the bands I like have been influenced by them but I’ve never listened to the originals.

Here is more on WHY Dannilynn will get a chunk of change from the Marshall Estate.

When ANS went to court in Texas she was way outgunned and outsmarted by Pierce Marshall. What she claimed was true... old man Marshall intended to give take care of her financially. He instructed his attorneys to develop a catchall trust and at one point even told them to put together a company that would be Anna’s. Additionally there were was strong evidence that he wanted Anna to have 1/2 of his new community...that would be the increase in wealth that he had while he was married to her.

What she didn’t have was proof...but she got lawyered up by the time they got to California. Maybe Stern had something to do with this...if so...he does deserve some serious money because the tide turned.

Vickie’s new attorneys demands for discovery resuoted in over 475 boxes containing over 2 million pages of documents. Those documents were pored over like children digging through manure looking to find that pony!

They found plenty. Pierce had hired hired Edwin Hunter to take over his dad’s estate plan and his father had approved...however, what dad didn’t know is that Pierce was controlling Hunter. Hunter immediately made drastic changes to the estate plan and unbeknownst to the old man removed all of his control of his assets. This was done by drafting long documents in small print (the old man couldn’t read well anymore) and misrepresented the documents when they read to them (or removed pages). Up until his death Marshall was unaware that he had signed away his fortune to his son’s total control.

Hunter had testified that he didn’t know anything about the catchall trust, the companies, the desire of old man Marshall to provide for ANS. But...lo and behold...there were BILLS where he had made calls about these subjects and charged for drafting documents that were provided by the discovery demands!

Pierce was also caught in a bunch of lies and eventually the court found him guilty of interfering with ANS’s expectancy; for conspiring to suppress or destroy the intervivos gift; and to strip Howard of his assets by backdating, altering, and otherwise falsifying documents and presenting them to J. Howard under false pretenses.

The appeal that Pierce won in the 9th district did not clear Pierce of these acts but said that the Texas Probate Court had exclusive jurisdiction.

That appeal is what ANS appealed to the Supreme Court where she found an ally... the President of the United States who sent one of WAshington’s best and brightest to argue on her behalf.

The Supreme Court decision was unanimous and ANS won the right to go back to the California court now that it was clear that they legally did have jurisdiction!

So... there is no doubt that money will be forthcoming for Danielynn and if they consider the increased value of that gift in interest it could be enormous. (The Marshall family has been unwilling to value the estate as they have ongoing issues with the IRS over that point).

Hope that helps explain it a little more...

Most of the bands I like have been influenced by them but I’ve never listened to the originals.

The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton are a few that come to mind off hand. Many others admit they were influenced by the originals and used their songs. And i never knew until i read about them that those songs came from way back in the day.

Last night on TV was a documentary. I've seen it before but watched again. Can't remember the name but it was about the juke joints that still exist in the MS delta region. It featured Morgan Freemans place called Madidi or Madida (which isn't an original juke joint but maybe that will ring a bell and maybe you've seen it). The music is terrific. The interviews great also.

Well since HKS paid ANS’s bills before she died, he likely had signatory powers on her accounts. If he did, then it’s also quite likely that she named him as survivor beneficiary on her checking and savings and moneymarket account, on all her regular operational accounts.

I truly believe no ONE has paid him. HE has paid himself for his services. Everything about his life since ANS’s death I’m certain he can justify as caring for DL, flying his family and self around to “protect her interests,” clothing - same, food and residence - same. Everything he’s been doing, spending, obtaining for himself since ANS died, he can justify and its the old bird in the hand story. It’s a lot easier for HKS to spend money now (including stashing a bit here and there in prepaying attys, rent boat pmts etc.) and let the powers that be try to obtain reimbursement later, if it is ever reviewed down the line and if some authority finds it to be unwarranted. He’s all about here and now. And I bet sister dearest is working overtime categorizing every expenditure.

The entire will/trust of ANS is basically invalid and whatever her estate is will pass according to rules of intestacy.
.

And the movie is not filming ...it will be at the Cannes Film Festival that is coming up.

It will be released soon and it will probably do pretty well even though she couldn’t act a lick just because people want to see it.

That’s a good question. All I could find is that it’s an Indie film but couldn’t they make a movie without someone authorizing it?

I’m not sure about Clint but in the 80’s there was a movie called Crosswords with Ralph Macchio and I haven’t seen it but I heard it’s about this kid who befriends an older man who sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads.

Was that the one where the kid went to the old guys house (old guy had pictures of his dead wife and kid all over the house) and took sax lessons from him?
